10 Mind-Blowing Movies That Few People Know About

by Jean Hartley

You will have to follow the action very carefully. If you miss an important point, you may not understand how the film steered towards the intended ending.

1. Flashback (2019)

Frederick is going through a difficult period: on the one hand everything is great - he has a good girlfriend, a great new job and a promising future, on the other - his mother is in the hospital and the prognosis is bleak. A chance meeting on the street makes the young man remember an equally difficult phase of his life, the center of which was the strange girl Cindy. Long after one muddy party, she simply disappeared, and no one who was there remembers what happened to her. Frederick realizes that the most important thing for him personally right now is to recover the memory of that evening.

A very complexly assembled film leaves a wide range of interpretations, and each version will be true, following the logic of one of the film's messages: there are several versions of your life at once, and only you decide which of them is true.

2. The Father (2020)

Eighty-year-old Anthony lives in his beautiful and spacious apartment in London. He is constantly chasing away the caregivers his daughter hires for him. She wants to find him a good assistant, because she herself is going to move to Paris and is afraid to leave her father with progressive dementia unattended. The old man thinks he can cope without babysitters, and in general sometimes it seems to him that strange people who appear in his house and disappear want to get their hands on his luxurious apartment.

The heavy and scary film balances on the edge between a family drama and a psychological thriller, within which the unhappy old man exists.

3. Fear of Rain (2020)

High school student Rain is ill with schizophrenia. After another seizure during which she trashed her room, Rain temporarily occupies the guest room. Now at night, the girl hears children's cries, and one day she sees a girl in the attic window across the street, calling for help. At the same time, everyone knows that their neighbor has no children of her own, but because Raines is sick, no one believes her, except for her new friend Caleb. True, the girl is not sure that Caleb is not a figment of her imagination.

This movie plunges you into the world of the heroine, who is constantly forced to doubt what she sees and hears. And together with her you will have to decide whether or not to believe.

4. Time Lapse (2014)

Three friends find an amazing camera that shows the future - once a day, it takes a picture that depicts what will happen in this place at this time tomorrow.

This is certainly another good film to add to the piggy bank of those who love stories about temporal paradoxes. They are shown from a curious point of view: if you don't know the future, you can influence it, if it is predicted, you are bound by your hands and feet, and you will fulfill it, want it or not. It's one of those movies that proves that you can make something worthwhile on a minimal budget.

5. Triangle (2009)

A young woman is going on a day trip with friends to take a break from her worries. Relaxing doesn't work out because the ship is wrecked. The victims find salvation on a liner, which happens to be nearby just in time. But there is not a soul on it, though someone is obviously watching the guests.

The film is quite emotionally heavy and difficult to understand. It's not for everyone.

6. The Cell (2000)

A psychopathic maniac is admitted to the hospital in a comatose state and the police need to find out from him where his latest victim is languishing. With this noble goal in mind, psychiatrist Katherine uses a new technique to get inside the killer's mind. There she meets and gets acquainted with the inner self of the maniac.

This insanely beautiful film was nominated for an Oscar in 2001 for best makeup.

7. Sleuth (2007)

The story of an elderly rich writer and his wife's young lover. Tindle arrives at a wealthy mansion to get Wyke to divorce his lover. He unexpectedly agrees, but on the condition that his rival help him fake a burglary of the house to the financial benefit of both parties.

This is a remake of the 1972 film Sleuth. Michael Caine here plays an elderly millionaire, and in that movie, 35 years ago, he was for a young lover.

8. Fracture (2007)

Another story about a cheating husband. After catching his wife cheating, he shoots her in cold blood, fires a couple more shots in the air, and calmly waits for the police to arrive. Everything seems to indicate that the case will soon go to court, there will be no problems. The killer even confesses. However, the case surprisingly falls apart before our eyes.

An excellent psychological thriller for fans of the acting skills of Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling.

9. Paycheck (2003)

Michael is a specialist who is regularly erased from his memory after working on undercover projects. He agrees to take part in a three-year project, and as a result he was promised shares of a large company and a huge fee. After three years, he only receives an envelope with things that belonged to him before starting work, and learns that he gave up all of his remuneration a few weeks ago. And the hunt began for him. The task is to survive. But for this you need to remember something very important.

A good, twisted chase and puzzle action game won't bring you important insights, but it will help you have a good evening.

10. Before I Fall (2017)

Popular high school student Samantha dies in a terrible accident, but instead of resting like all normal mortals, she goes through her last day over and over again. And the further, the less she likes the way she behaved before.
