How Residential Roofing Played a Role in Iconic Movie Scenes?

From the rambling rooftops of Victorian London in "Mary Poppins" to the heart-pounding chases in "The Bourne Identity," the humble residential roof has frequently found its moment of glory in cinematic history. If you are looking to know more about residential roofing, go here.

The unique perspective and ambiance it provides have been masterfully harnessed by directors to leave an indelible mark on viewers. In this article, we explore some iconic movie scenes that use residential roofing as more than just a background, and how it has enhanced the visual storytelling of film.

1. "Mary Poppins" (1964) - Dancing on the Rooftops

Disney's beloved nanny took viewers on a magical journey across the rooftops of London. The chimneys, slates, and eaves became a playground for Mary, Bert, and the dancing chimney sweeps. This scene showcases the beauty and complexity of London’s Victorian rooftops, turning them into a whimsical stage for one of cinema’s most memorable dance sequences.

2. "The Bourne Identity" (2002) - The Roof Chase

Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne deftly navigates the European rooftops as he escapes from and chases after various adversaries. The rooftop scenes, particularly in Paris, provide not only thrilling moments of pursuit but also showcase the beautiful and varied architecture of European residences. The terracotta tiles, steep pitches, and old-world charm add layers to the chase, making the sequence visually rich and intense.

3. "Fiddler on the Roof" (1971) - Tevye's Monologues

In this classic musical, the title itself points to the significance of the roof. Tevye, the protagonist, often finds himself addressing God or sharing his thoughts while on his roof. The elevated vantage point symbolizes his spiritual connection and the age-old traditions of his community.

4. "The Room" (2003) - “I did not hit her!”

Though this film is often cited for its eccentricity and is dubbed one of the "worst movies ever made," it has achieved cult status. One of the most quoted lines takes place on a rooftop, proving that even in less critically acclaimed movies, a rooftop can play a central role in memorable scenes.

5. "Spider-Man" (2002) - Swinging through the Neighborhood

While Spider-Man is more associated with the skyscrapers of New York City, residential roofing in Queens, Peter Parker’s home, plays a significant role. These rooftops provide the training grounds for the young superhero as he learns to navigate his newfound powers. They offer an intimate backdrop, grounding the larger-than-life character in his very human origins.

6. "La La Land" (2016) - Evening Dance

As Mia and Sebastian dance in the evening light, residential roofs and houses form a beautiful backdrop, painting a romantic portrait of Los Angeles. This scene exemplifies how even a city known for its vastness can be distilled into a neighborhood feel through the lens of residential roofing.

Conclusion

From intimate moments to high-paced chases, the rooftops of residences have offered filmmakers a unique setting to craft unforgettable scenes. They provide a blend of aesthetics, intimacy, and drama, capturing the essence of life from an elevated perspective. So, next time you watch a movie, take a moment to appreciate the residential rooftops; they might just be playing a bigger role than you realized.

How Legal Counsel Contributes to Celebrity Status?

How Legal Counsel Contributes to Celebrity Status?

In the world of cinematic glitz and glamour, there are key backstage players who contribute significantly to the careers of our beloved film stars. Among them, one of the most crucial, yet often unnoticed, roles is that of legal practitioners. These individuals, Hollywood's unsung champions, operate from behind the curtain, providing critical support to safeguard, manage, and enhance the celebrity status of our favorite stars.

#1: Contract Mastery

One of the most pivotal responsibilities of attorneys involves the careful orchestration of contract negotiations related to film engagements. Movie contracts are intricate labyrinths where even the smallest detail can have substantial consequences.

Attorneys meticulously review these contracts to ensure all clauses, ranging from payment terms to work schedules, as well as nuanced details like royalty rights and usage of the celebrity's persona, are not just fair but favourable to their star clientele. Their expertise often leads to more beneficial contract conditions, thereby promoting the continued success of these stars.

#2: Safeguarding Intellectual Assets

Beyond their on-screen ventures, movie stars often diversify their brand into other areas, launching merchandise, authoring books, starting businesses, or producing their own movies. Attorneys are instrumental in these endeavors, providing robust protection of the star's intellectual property rights.

Be it trademarking a fashion brand or protecting a script or book from being copied, attorneys vigilantly ward off any misuse of a star's work or name, maintaining their brand value and integrity.

#3: Steering through Legal Troubles

Given the contentious nature of Hollywood, it's not uncommon for legal disputes to arise, and movie stars are no exception to this. From contract disagreements to defamation claims or privacy violations, stars require sound legal counsel to steer through these legal storms.

Attorneys not only offer such guidance but also employ damage control strategies to protect the star's reputation, thus ensuring their career remains unscathed. If you’re looking for a personal injury lawyer, you can click here https://www.google.com/maps?cid=14116608233752473766.

#4: Future Financial Planning

Like all individuals, celebrities too need to strategize for their financial future and that of their family. Attorneys help them manage their extensive assets, including their income, real estate, investments, and royalty rights. With judicious estate planning, attorneys guarantee that stars can uphold their lifestyle throughout their lifetime and their wealth is appropriately distributed as per their desires posthumously.

#5: Upholding Legal Obligations

Being in the public eye, movie stars are subject to a multitude of regulations and legal duties. Attorneys guide them to meet these requirements, from professional conduct rules to tax obligations. This comprehensive assistance protects stars from potential legal pitfalls arising from non-adherence, thereby preserving their reputation and career.

To sum up, the sparkle and allure of Hollywood is not only a product of the charismatic movie stars themselves but also the result of a sophisticated support network operating behind the scenes. Attorneys form a vital component of this network, playing a critical role in the lives of movie stars.

From contract mastery, safeguarding intellectual assets, steering through legal troubles, future financial planning to upholding legal obligations, attorneys work indefatigably to secure the interests of these stars. Their role, thus, is as crucial and consequential as the celebrities they represent.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Creator

Images courtesy of 20th Century Studios

THE CREATOR— 4 STARS

Machines of many shapes and forms fill the foregrounds and backgrounds of The Creator. Curious audiences will want to know right away what makes The Creator and its machines tick. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards is a student of science fiction and volunteered an eclectic list on Twitter of movies that inspired him to make this one. So, go ahead and put The Creator in an imaginary lab for cinematic and mechanical dissection.

No doubt, shrewd fans of genre films will see a gear of this and a sprocket of that from Edwards’ list in The Creator. Honestly, after a century of the medium, that same kind of dissection can be done on virtually every modern movie. Look no further than the openly-shared lists of inspiration for the likes of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Damien Chazelle Babylon in the past year (throw in his La La Land too). Does the use of heavy inspiration or homage constitute creative bankruptcy? If so, that knocks down many, many outstanding films, but it begs the question and depends on if the possibly polarized viewer is dissecting with a scalpel or a chainsaw.

LESSON #1: WHAT POWERS YOUR HOMAGE OR INSPIRATION– Recognizable gears and sprockets aside, the real question is can familiarity still engage you and, better yet, move you? Sticking with the machine analogy happening here, that depends on what we’re going to call the movie’s battery. What is the thematic, entertaining, or emotional power source at the core of it all that makes new and familiar parts come alive and find their speed? Those sources are the filmmakers and storytellers themselves. If they bring a unique energy, then the battery is not another copied part from some other place and the machine becomes its own invention.

With The Creator, Gareth Edwards becomes one of those peerless fuels. His film may have informal traits from other sci-fi places that folks will criticize, but it has an emphatic beating heart all its own that cannot be contained and is wondrous to behold. Combining the genre’s penchant for implausible creativity and a powerful emphasis on existential connection, The Creator explores and reaches a special place within science fiction films.

In The Creator’s second half of the 21st century, the civilized world has experienced a rise in robotic technology and their uses in the multiple workforce settings. As their models improved to include donated likenesses of humans and improved artificial intelligence programming, the more humanoid models would come to be called “simulants.” The harmony of man and machine ended with the detonation of a nuclear warhead in Los Angeles that killed over a million people and was blamed on the collective A.I.

In the decade and a half since, The United States increased its military operations to ban, round-up, and destroy their former civil servant robots. In contrast, the collected countries of New Asia have maintained a culture that included and embraced robots equally. They infused them with practices of religion and made them part of their families. Using the U.S.S. Nomad, a massive space station capable of scanning and bombing robot-friendly enclaves from the upper atmosphere, the United States Army has crossed borders to eradicate the robots thriving and sheltering in New Asia.

One man that’s seen both sides of this conflict up close is Joshua, played by Tenet and BlackKklansman star John David Washington. Trained in the Special Forces, Joshua spent years undercover in New Asia trying to identify “Nirmata,” the anonymous architect of the existing robots’ A.I. deemed a terrorist. In the process, he loved and lost his pregnant wife Maya (Gemma Chan of Eternals), which led to his exile from the military. When rumors surface that Nirmata has a new weapon with the power to end the war, the current brass (embodied by Allison Janney and Ralph Ineson) re-activates Joshua to infiltrate New Asia again.

LESSON #2: THE DEFINITION OF “NIRMATA”-- The title of Gareth Edwards’ saga is the Nepalese word for “creator.” Digging a little deeper in the etymology, “nirmata” can also define a “constructor,” “producer,” or “builder.” Those are fitting levels of labels and totems for both the movie’s internal quest and the inspired artists who created it. Again, this thing has a battery all its own.

The builders of The Creator employed smart and effective filmmaking to separate itself from the over-soaked crowd it would usually be part of. By shooting at 80 different locations across seven different Asian countries, Edwards and his first-time production designer James Clyne minimized costly set construction and massive greenscreen needs. Likewise, Edwards waited until the movie was cut and locked by the powerhouse three-man editing team of 3-time Oscar nominee Hank Corwin (The Big Short), Dune Oscar winner Joe Walker, and Scott Morris (Armageddon Time) before passing the finished film to the wizards at Industrial Light & Magic for completed effects that enhance rather than dominate the on-location imagery captured by fellow Dune Academy Award winner Greig Fraser and Oren Soffer.

Those strategies kept The Creator’s budget to, by today’s standards, an economical $80 million, proving big studios are spending three times that amount with rushed and cheaper-looking results. Bolstered outside of the camera lens by a sweeping and pulsating score from two-time Oscar winner Hans Zimmer, The Creator is an artistic and technical marvel that will deserve Oscar consideration of its own this winter.

As part of the mission, Joshua discovers clues that Maya may have never died and is now active with Nirmata and the weapon. Lo and behold, the “Alpha O” weapon turns out to be an android child (newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles) with special abilities raised underground away from the real world. Joshua breaks ranks, takes it upon himself to rescue “Alphie,” and goes on the run to preserve the pro-A.I. cause and seek Maya. This leads to a multi-faceted fight for existence with different reasons on both sides.

LESSON #3: IT’S MORE THAN JUST THE PROGRAMMING– The entrenched battlefield of man vs. machine in The Creator plays very knowingly on our current fascinations and fears with artificial intelligence becoming more commonplace in our world. Even though programming is a human-created fault, condemnation of all collapse in the film is nearly automatically assigned to the simulants. According to Janney’s warmonger Col. Howell, the child must be destroyed with no ifs, ands, or buts.

LESSON #4: THE DISARMING PRESENCE OF A CHILD– For the human and mechanical citizens of New Asia, inclusion has merged cultures and adapted peaceful spirituality. This child has been earmarked as a savior in a war with losses happening for more wrong reasons than right ones. Alphie innocently does not know its created purpose as a weapon. More than anything, it wants its mother and talks longingly of heaven, of all places, creating an attachment to Joshua that changes his entire loyalty.

LESSON #5: LOVE IS THE ULTIMATE CONNECTOR– Playing the linchpin of survival on a planetary scale, the simplicity of Madeleine Yuna Voyles’s presence and performance melts hearts made of flesh or lead left and right. She, like her longtime sage co-star Ken Watanabe playing a high-level guardian, is extraordinary at bringing moral heft and tangible dignity to the forefront. Matched with her scene-for-scene and radiating his own heroic solemnity, John David Washington projects protective father feels that are off the charts and may have you reaching for the unexpected tissue or two. As Joshua remarks, love helps people live and also helps people die.

In this writer’s eyes, The Creator provides something audiences (and maybe even the industry as a whole) have been craving for a long time. This is a singular piece of original science fiction made for a manageable price with minority representation and solid world-building that is thankfully not interested in exhaustive sequels or franchises. Its popcorn qualities are thrilling, imaginative, and zing at the IMAX and Dolby levels. Yet, The Creator’s best qualities remain intellectual, like great sci-fi should. The movie’s call for freedom is deep enough to impress minds with messages that are heavy, warranted, inspiring, and cautionary. Like his own “nirmata,” Gareth Edwards has constructed a potential touchstone speaking to the moment and stirring humanistic support along the way.

Great Essay Writing Tips to Boost Your Academic Success

Image: https://ift.tt/WaD41YX

An essay is one of the most common types of assignments for students and schoolchildren, and often, it requires the author not only to be able to express thoughts clearly and logically but also to have the ability to properly structure the text. In our article, we will look at how to properly structure an essay and give tips that will help you write a high-quality and informative text.

The article's topic is essential for all students who want to cope with this task at the highest level and get a high grade. Our goal is to help you write your essay by providing detailed information on how to do it correctly.

Breaking down the essay-writing task into smaller steps is an easy way to prepare a successful essay. But if it doesn't help you, you can always get help from EssayShark. Writers who work there can write an essay of any difficulty level easily.

Here are tips for writing a great essay:

1. Choose a topic.

The teacher may suggest an essay topic for you, or you may be given a choice on what topic to write an essay on. If you are given a topic, think about the essay type you want to write. If you are not given a topic, you have a little extra work.

However, you can choose a topic that interests you. Once you have determined the goal of your paper, you will need to do research on the topic. Think about your life. What are you interested in? Write down these topics. Finally, conduct an analysis of these topics.

Regardless of the essay's mission, make sure you are interested in your topic. But if you have no choice and you have an uninteresting topic, you can contact the writing service by leaving an "I want to pay someone to write my paper" request. In this way, you will not have to write a paper on a boring topic yourself.

2. Prepare an outline of your ideas.

Write down on paper all your thoughts on the topic in the form of a diagram. An outline or diagram allows you to organize your points. So, write a topic on a paper. Now, draw several lines (4-5) from this topic and write down ideas at the end of these lines. From the ideas, draw a few more lines and write down any thoughts on them.

3. Write the main thesis.

The thesis is the main statement that the author intends to prove in the essay. The thesis statement is usually presented in the last sentence of the introduction.

4. The main part of the essay.

The body is the largest and most content-rich part of the essay, in which the author develops their thesis. It can consist of one or more paragraphs, each of which contains its own arguments, examples, and facts to support the thesis. Transitions are phrases that connect different ideas and arguments within the body. They provide a logical connection between different paragraphs, making the text better and more informative.

5. Write an introduction.

An introduction is the beginning of an essay in which you introduce the reader to the topic and formulate the thesis you will develop further. The introduction should be short and informative to interest the reader and encourage them to continue reading. It should show what exactly your essay is focusing on.

6. End with the conclusion.

The conclusion is the last part of the essay, in which the author summarizes their arguments and supports the thesis. The conclusion should be short and clear, convincing the reader that the thesis is correct. Your conclusion should be three to five sentences. Counterarguments are possible arguments that contradict the author's thesis. In the conclusion, the author can present counterarguments and explain why they are not significant or do not refute the thesis.

7. Add the finishing touches.

You may think that you have finished your essay. This is wrong. Your arguments should be checked once again. See if your essay meets the requirements set by the teacher or the competition organizers. Reread your essay. Make sure the order of sentences flows.

8. Include a bibliography

A bibliography is a list of sources cited by the author in an essay. It includes the titles of books, articles, documents, and other sources used to support the author's arguments and thesis. The works cited section is drawn per the chosen citation style and bibliography.

9. Recommendations for preparing research material

  • Use reliable sources such as academic articles, books, documents, and studies.

  • Explore different points of view on a topic to form a more complete and objective view of the problem.

  • Remember to take notes as you read and research the topic to make it easier for you to navigate the material later.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that the correct structure of an essay is an integral part of the successful writing of this type of work. By following the tips, you can write your essays more effectively, creating a logical and persuasive text.

MOVIE REVIEW: Dumb Money

Images courtesy of Sony Pictures

DUMB MONEY– 4 STARS

LESSON #1: THE MANY MEANINGS OF INSANE– The tagline of Craig Gillespie’s Dumb Money call it an “insane true story.” That’s quite an ostentatious place to slap on the adjective label of “insane.” Going strictly by the dictionary and not every casual overused spin, the word is a coin toss between “severely mentally ill” and describing a decision or action that is “very foolish or excessive.”

With a title like Dumb Money, which references a Wall Street slang term for a group of individual and non-institutional investors and their money, one has to ask if “insane” is talking about a dollar amount or a measurement of wisdom or choices. Well, you’re going to need that shiny quarter to flip. A thoroughly entertained viewer will be finger-pointing insanity occurring, in some shape or form, at nearly every turn of this off-the-cuff, firebrand movie.

Dumb Money pits commoner retail traders versus powerful hedge fund managers. The film introduces its characters with accompanying on-screen text that lists their names and net worth. The roll call starts with the millionaires and billionaires like Citadel’s Kenneth C. Griffin (TV legend Nick Offerman), Point72’s Steve Cohen (professional movie villain Vincent D’Onofrio), and Melvin Capital’s Gabe Plotkin (a slim and trim Seth Rogen). The informal meetings trickle down through college students (Myha’la Herrold of Bodies Bodies Bodies and Never Really Sometimes Always star Talia Ryder), a struggling nurse (Barbie’s America Ferrera), an ambitious GameStop clerk (Anthony Ramos of In the Heights), and all the way down to our lead protagonist Keith Gill, played by Paul Dano.

LESSON #2: THE STRENGTH OF THE EXCLAMATION “HOLY SHIT”-- Each of those characters (and more) punctuate their on-screen introductions with personalized utterances of “holy shit.” Now, much like the label of “insane,” that exclamation can go any number of ways with different degrees of volume and supporting emotionality. Is it shock? Anger? Intrigue? It’s hilarious to observe who in Dumb Money is dropping that curse for reasons of rejoice versus realizations of doom. Talk about a stage-setter!

In 2021, Keith Gill was working for MassMutual while creating an online presence with his Roaring Kitty YouTube channel, matching Twitter persona, and “DeepFuckingValue” username on the r/WallStreetBets subpage on Reddit. With full support of his wife Caroline (an overqualified Shailene Woodley) and the cheerleading of his derelict brother (Pete Davidson), Keith retreats to their basement, dons a red headband, tends to his cat, and fires up his double-monitor computer station. Educated, independent, and forthright with his research as a former broker, Gill actively promoted value investing to his followers and subscribers. He tabbed the retail store GameStop (GME) as a stock worth betting on for being undervalued.

Much like the financial tales-of-the-tape for the characters, Dumb Money introduced GameStop sitting at $3.85, which is a level double its prior low when the hedge funds directed short sale action predicting failure. Cent by cent and dollar after dollar, the stock rose meteorically, spurring social media movements full of memes, GIFs, and hashtags and capturing national attention. The prospective gains of common folk buying into Gill’s advice– many using the Robinhood app– had the inverse effect on those hedge fund companies who bet on the company’s implosion, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. By the peak of the real-life (and the film’s condensed) course of investor attention and buying rallies, the price ballooned to 100 times that starting level. That’s the moment of all those aforementioned “holy shit” moments and the tipping point where questionable tactics and possible market chicanery would make a big story even bigger.

LESSON #3: THE DRAMATIZED SHORT VERSION OF THE 2021 GAMESTOP SHORT SQUEEZE– Hopscotching between informative docufiction and troublemaking hero worship, Dumb Money shows off a Hollywood-friendly account of the 2021 GameStop short squeeze. Naturally, elements are shortened, shifted, skipped and/or embellished to make a compelling and peppy movie for a moviegoing public that is likely not going to be hip to all the stock market rules and lingo. Post-movie homework likely awaits you. Unlike The Big Short, which stops to humorously lecture viewers through the fourth wall, Craig Gillespie (Cruella and I, Tonya) lets the actors steer the roller coaster with their actions and reactions, and not with blunt terminology lessons.

From an engagement and storytelling standpoint, Dumb Money’s biggest strength is providing an ensemble of varying points of view. A more clinical approach would be to stick to Gill vs. The Man, but that’s a singular fight above most everyone’s head or care level. By offering a slice-of-life group of (likely fictitious) follower investors like Ferrara, Herrold, Ryder, and Ramos spread across the country and pinned with different personal risks in this whole ordeal, Dumb Money finds a very approachable appeal.

Gillespie used those multiple perspectives to his advantage to move matters along in a tight 104 minutes. Thanks to a bumping 2020s soundtrack of explicit lyrics and the slick editing of David Fincher’s regular editor Kirk Baxter, Dumb Money uses its energetic songs at the shared background of several montages that merge our characters of different social castes riding their financial waves. Showing their differences created an Us vs. Them slant in the movie that matched that of the recent history itself. Their “diamond hands” excitement and outrage becomes ours while watching, because, as we come to know, not everyone makes out like a bandit and not every wrongdoer gets their cumuppence.

That wide collection of citizens we root for and the ball-busting affability of Paul Dano and Pete Davidson (used perhaps for the first time in a movie with the perfect proportion of screen time and character guise beyond his stoner self) on the homefront bolster Dumb Money to be a crowd-pleaser as smashing as it is smart. Even before it makes it to its “run through lightning with your dick out” metaphor, this pandemic time capsule stands tall as a sure-fire message movie for its time.

How Online Casinos Retain Customers

Image: https://ift.tt/34YHmfQ

In the highly competitive world of online casinos, retaining customers is essential for long-term success and growth. With a plethora of options available to players, online casinos must go beyond attracting new customers and focus on strategies to keep their existing players engaged and loyal.

When you look at an established casino like Novibet you’ll see why it has been around for decades. The right selection of games and offers keeps players flocking to the site. Moreover, they get to deposit and withdraw with their favorite payment options and enjoy their games in a secure environment thanks to SSL encryption and other security measures.

With that example, you can see that online casinos go through a lot to attract customers and keep them around. Here are some of the ways they achieve this:

Reward Programs and Loyalty Schemes

One of the most common strategies used by online casinos to retain customers is the implementation of reward programs and loyalty schemes. These programs offer various incentives and perks to players based on their level of activity and loyalty. Online casinos strive to offer responsive and efficient customer service channels, including live chat, email support, and dedicated phone lines. Promptly addressing player inquiries, concerns, and issues creates a positive impression and fosters trust and loyalty. By ensuring that players feel supported and valued, online casinos increase the likelihood of retaining customers over the long term.

Social Interaction and Community Building

Online casinos understand the importance of social interaction and community building in retaining customers. They often integrate social features such as chat rooms, forums, and live dealer games that allow players to interact with each other and with the casino staff. Online casinos may also organize community events, tournaments, and challenges that foster a sense of belonging and create a vibrant community atmosphere. By providing opportunities for players to connect and engage with others, online casinos enhance the overall player experience and encourage long-term loyalty.

Continuous Innovation and Game Variety

To retain customers, online casinos must constantly innovate and offer a wide variety of games. By regularly introducing new games, innovative features, and cutting-edge technology, online casinos keep the gaming experience fresh and exciting. They also cater to a diverse range of player preferences by offering an extensive selection of slots, table games, live dealer games, and specialty games.

In conclusion, online casinos employ various strategies to retain customers in an increasingly competitive industry. By focusing on customer retention, online casinos build strong relationships with their players, foster loyalty, and ensure the long-term success of their operations.

Financing Dream Cars: Tips Inspired by "Ford vs. Ferrari"

Image: https://ift.tt/BbTDj3q

by Kevin Gardner

While the movie "Ford vs. Ferrari" delivered high-octane drama, riveting race sequences, and insight into the world of car design and racing, it also implicitly explored the passion that drives individuals to dream about cars. For many, owning a dream car remains just that - a dream. However, with smart financial planning and understanding, that dream can become a reality.

Understand Your Budget

The first step in making any large purchase, especially a car, is understanding your budget. Before diving into the myriad options available in the automobile market, determine how much you can realistically afford to spend without straining your finances.

The Magic of a Car Loan Calculator

One tool that can be immensely beneficial during this phase is a car loan calculator. It allows prospective buyers to input the price of the car, down payment, interest rate, and loan term to get an estimated monthly payment. This can help in understanding what price range to focus on and how different variables can impact the monthly payment. Experiment with different numbers and see where your comfort zone lies.

Research & Select Your Dream Car

Once you have a budget in mind, start researching vehicles within that range. It’s essential to remember that just because a car is expensive doesn’t mean it's the best fit for you. Look at the performance, safety features, reviews, and also the total cost of ownership which includes insurance, maintenance, and other associated costs.

Shop Around for Financing Options

Don’t just settle for the first financing option you come across. Different institutions can offer various interest rates and terms. Moreover, some dealerships have tie-ups with financial institutions and might offer promotional rates, especially during holiday seasons or year-end sales.

Pay Attention to Loan Terms

While it might be tempting to opt for longer loan terms due to lower monthly payments, remember that longer terms also mean you’ll end up paying more in interest over time. It might be more beneficial to choose a shorter loan term if you can afford the monthly payments.

Make a Significant Down Payment

The larger the down payment, the smaller the loan amount will be. This can result in a lower interest rate, reduced monthly payments, and a shorter loan term. If you’ve been saving up for your dream car, this is the time to put that savings to good use.

Don’t Forget About Insurance

A speedy new vehicle, especially if it falls into the luxury or sports car category, might come with hefty insurance premiums. Make sure to get insurance quotes before finalizing your purchase. Sometimes, the cost of insurance can impact the affordability of the car.

Maintain Good Credit

Your credit score plays a significant role in the interest rate you’ll be offered. Before starting the car buying process, check your credit report for any errors and work on improving your score if necessary. A higher credit score can save you thousands over the loan term.

Inspired by "Ford vs. Ferrari" – Drive with Passion, but Buy with Prudence

Just as Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles approached their racing with passion and precision in "Ford vs. Ferrari," approach your car buying process with the same enthusiasm and meticulousness. Ensure you're getting a good deal, understand all the associated costs, and remember that the joy of driving your dream car will be even greater without financial strains attached.

In Conclusion

Dream cars are not just symbols of luxury showcased in movies or reserved exclusively for the elite. They represent aspirations, passions, and sometimes, life-long dreams. With proper planning, research, and understanding, along with a clear vision of what you desire, you can be on your way to owning the car you’ve always envisioned. The journey to acquiring your dream car is filled with exciting choices and critical financial decisions. Using tools like the car loan calculator can guide you, ensuring you keep your finances in check and make informed decisions every step of the way. So, gear up, follow your plan, and enjoy the thrill of the drive. Safe driving!

MOVIE REVIEW: Outlaw Johnny Black

Images courtesy of Samuel Goldwyn Films

OUTLAW JOHNNY BLACK– 3 STARS

It doesn’t take a film historian to notice that most westerns have an innate aimlessness to them which matches their period era. Words were chosen wisely and still minced to veil most showy emotion. The world was slower, where crowds were sparse and people sauntered more than sprinted. Yet, beyond all of that whistling and mozzying was also a harsher lifestyle more at peace with brutality when it arrived. For many, the main appeal of westerns is that very blend of idyllic breadth and carnal survivalism.

LESSON #1: BE READY TO AMBLE– With that in mind, viewers will have to forgive just about every second act of every western movie in existence for its sluggish ambling. There’s a good chance it opened with a bang to get you going and will end with another to send you home satisfied. The challenge is to stay invested through the middle minutiae stuffed between the bookending action. Know that it’s coming and prepare for it because Outlaw Johnny Black is one of those westerns.

However, Outlaw Johnny Black is a unique genre experiment that knows damn well what cookie cutter it’s using. Led by star Michael Jai White stepping into the director’s chair, these are the people that made the hilarious blaxploitation cult classic Black Dynamite 14 years ago. Yes! Go ahead and drop a Jules Winfield reply to that news. With a clenched fist and a tongue in its cheek, White and company are here to emulate and embellish the best and worst qualities of westerns by making a cool one of their own.

LESSON #2: A SON’S LONG-FESTERING REVENGE– Sure enough, Outlaw Johnny Black opens with a stage-setting demonstration of the cool badassery it aspires to achieve. The title character (White) is a known wanted man seen entering a dusty town with determination on his face and Michael Bearden’s spicy musical score cutting the air. Trotting down the main drag, Johnny tips his hat, looks towards the undertaker milling about, and signals him with a number three, calling his shot and guaranteeing the man future business. The tough hombre dressed in black is looking for his eternally marked quarry of Brett Clayton (steady TV character actor Chris Browning), the gang leader who killed his trick-shooting preacher father Bullseye Black (Glynn Turman, in a nice extended cameo) many years ago when he was a kid (played in flashback by Till standout Jalyn Hall).

In true Michael Jai White fashion as a man with seven different black belts, Johnny uncorks sick (and intentionally inaccurate for its era) martial arts moves to dispatch many ruffians. He doesn’t get his man this time, but those three coffins find their new permanent occupants. After drawing more attention to himself from the local bounty hunter Bill Bassett (former UFC champ Randy Couture) and land baron Tom Sheally (the well-preserved silver fox Barry Bostwick)-- including confrontations from (again, intentionally inaccurate) Native American locals, Johnny has to continue his quest laying low in the country.

With high appreciation, Outlaw Johnny Black shows off an astounding dedication to practical action filmmaking. On the most immediate surfaces, the makeup department and the costume design work of Elizabeth Jett (Born a Champion) and Simone Lepthien (TV’s Beached) are first-rate for an independent production. Unlike today’s blockbusters relying on green screen backgrounds and plastered VFX, White and his second unit teams form this knock-down-drag-’em-out brawl with go-for-broke stunt work coordinated by Pete Antico (The Predator, Deadpool 2) and Terry Leonard (The Call of the Wild). Special honors are deserved for the nine-person horse wrangling team, which include four members of the Coulombe family who have worked on films like John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum and Wonder Woman 1984.

Throughout the opening third of the film, Michael Jai White is dialing up his own wheelhouse almost perfectly. Being 55 has not slowed or softened him a bit. White’s buff frame and deep vocal timbre intimidate most every screen partner, man or woman alike. When his character does fly off the handle, those eyes widen and the cheesy, agape exasperations call to mind those of a young Arnold Schwarzenegger. They earn as many laughs and they do cool points. Michael Jai White is best in this renegade hero mode. Sitting in the director’s chair for Outlaw Johnny Black, it’s when he deviates into plot-heavy backstory that his charismatic effect wears off slightly.

Out on the frontier, Johnny meets and befriends Reverend Percy (Black Dynamite co-writer/co-creator Byron Minns) on his way to become the new lead pastor for the area. After a skirmish appears to leave the good reverend dead, Johnny takes Reverend Percy’s personal effects and assumes his identity as a way to hop back into public undetected as he continues to track Brett Clayton and his whereabouts. Reverend Percy’s arrival is a trumpeted event of providence for the locals. This newfound quasi-celebrity status forces the normally uncouth Johnny to clean up his act, find fake-it-until-you-make-it religion again, and juggle two smitten sisters Jessie and Bessie (Anika Noni Rose of Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey and We Have a Ghost’s Erica Ash).

LESSON #3: BECOMING WHAT YOU SOUGHT TO DEFY– In aping the western genre with its tropes buffet, Outlaw Johnny Black still falls for the genre’s aforementioned trappings. The movie’s second act where Johnny Black is on the lam and playing Reverend Percy is a wearisome slog. That fatty middle of uneventful crossovers and the massaged message of finding forgiveness bloats the film’s runtime to 130 minutes when 90 or 100 would be plenty. Michael Jai White and any agitating rebel he plays needs to be dispensing painful justice more than mulling mini existential crises.

While the character evolution to lean on and bend stereotypes in Outlaw Johnny Black is admirable, that course saps the fun, satirical approach possible within Minns and White’s screenplay. Luckily, a reformed Johnny Black and his adversaries are not detaching themselves from their quarrel or six-shooters so easily. An inevitable climactic showdown (including some surprise cameos of memorable movie tough guys from yesteryear) arrives and all is forgiven. When this attempted romp and tribute is punching, kicking, and gunslinging, it doesn’t get much cooler.
