7 Best Stoner Movies Of All Time
by Crystal M. Wilson
When you think of a stoner movie, what comes to your mind? Is it a bunch of potheads trying to look for a car, finding their perfect meal, or committing a crime? Stoner movies have all those elements and more. If you feel that stoner movies have nothing more to offer, you will miss the multiple experimental and noir options available to you.
It does not matter how you like your weed. These top seven options will be your all-time favorite no matter what. So, here's starting the list without further delay.
1. Cabin Boy
Let's start with this rare gem from the nineties that is still one of the top names in stoner movies. The best part of this movie is that if marijuana makes your attention span spread, you will have difficulty understanding the exact period that the movie is set in. With Cabin Boy, you are at an actual seaside port one minute and at a massive studio set the next moment.
Though it is hard to keep track, losing yourself in this wacky world feels fun after using the weed stuff. Chris Elliott has kept the nineties’ trademark random humor alive in this movie, and the jokes are super-funny. If you also want to have the same feeling and experience a great quality weed, then visiting an Ontario online weed store is an excellent option.
2. Smiley Face
Weed isn't misogynistic, but the movie producers are not so open-minded like weeds. Thus, you get to see few female stoners in movies. Gregg Araki, famous for his work in 'Kaboom' and 'The Doom Generation,' brings you this delightful stoner film with Anna Faris being her brilliant self in every scene that she is in.
Faris plays an actress and economist who accidentally has too many THC-laden cupcakes and needs to venture outdoors right after that to attend an audition and earn money to pay her bills. The name of the movie is the perfect indication of how you are going to feel about it.
3. The Night Before
Jonathan Levine's brainchild is the perfect stoner movie to enjoy during the holidays. It is about three friends celebrating their final night of holiday extravaganza before giving themselves up to adulthood. This movie did not get much attention when released, but it has become increasingly popular as the years rolled by.
The excellent dynamic between the three leads, namely Anthony Mackie, Seth Rogen, and Michael Shannon, make 'The Night Before' even more fun to watch. Shannon essays the role of a high-school weed dealer to perfection. It is a winter stoner film that hangs its fuzzy and warm heart on its sleeve as it takes you on a joyride.
4. Under the Silver Lake
Ingesting more cannabis than the permissible limit can make anxiety and paranoia set in. Though it is nothing like an alcohol-induced hangover, you would not want to find yourself in the same place as Andrew Garfield did in this movie by the brilliant David Robert Mitchell.
Garfield's amateur detective’s paranoia is indeed more due to mental illness than the action of THC. However, he tries to put together the clues to uncover the truth behind a missing woman. You know it from the start that Garfield is on to something, which keeps you on edge.
5. The Beach Bum
'The Beach Bum' by Harmony Korine is a follow-up that the 'Spring Breakers' deserve for several reasons. Firstly, think about the premise of this movie. It is about a writer and poet who everybody thinks has fizzled out. However, he writes a Pulitzer-winning book while on a high and leaves everyone shocked. How many times did you wonder whether you could create something that brilliant while being on a high? After all, several brilliant masterpieces were made by people while being stoned.
Secondly, the film looks way too pretty to ignore. The Technicolor beauty of Florida Keys gets beautifully portrayed in the movie. Thirdly, Matthew McConaughey was born to essay the role of the protagonist.
6. Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
Nothing satisfies the craving for munchies like fast food, and 'Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle' seems to embrace this core idea. But our two leading men won't be happy with any random food. They want the perfect burger. And they will not stop until they find it. The movie is about their quest to find that burger and all the encounters they meet along the way.
You should especially watch out for that scene where an employee threatens to set his workplace on fire. Most importantly, watch this movie as it's a beautiful tale of friendship.
7. The Big Lebowski
This movie has been nothing short of a timeless classic for three decades thanks to its excellent storytelling, sharp writing from the Coen Brothers, and eye-for-details by cinematographer Roger Deakins.
Jeff Bridges is superb at playing the role of a perennial stoner who is okay with wearing slippers and Bermuda shorts as he is stuck at solving a mystery he doesn't want to be a part of ever. The movie has a stellar star cast who has essayed their best roles thanks to the excellent storyline helping them throughout. Yes, the movie is as good as you thought it might be.
