Most Memorable Movie Soundtracks Ever

There are loads of film soundtracks that you may feel resonate with you. The best ones can hold their own without the film. But which ones have touched the most fan’s hearts around the world?

When it comes to music in the movies, it’s all about details. Touches like the hard or soft hit on the hi-hat drum on the best reviewed hi hats can build tension or excitement. Like a long, drawn-out note on a violin or cello, other instruments can add nostalgia, dramatic flair, or suspense.

Let’s check out which soundtracks have most hit home.

The Bodyguard

The highest-earning soundtrack to date is still The Bodyguard, the 1992 movie starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. This soundtrack has sold in the region of 42 million copies globally.

With Whitney’s “I Will Always Love You” leading the soundtrack, how could it not? You'd have to be dead inside for that timeless ballad not to bring on the tears.

Dirty Dancing

I bet you saw that one coming. This soundtrack will always make you think of Baby’s wonderful summer of love and dance. Bill Medley’s “I’ve Had the Time of my Life” will forever be synonymous with this gorgeous movie.

Titanic

Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” is another unforgettable love ballad that just made the film. Besides that, the original instrumentals are a spectacular achievement. They are also enjoyable as a background track while you tootle around in your home.

My Best Friend’s Wedding

My Best Friend’s Wedding is heart-rending romance cinema at its best with a soundtrack to match its quality. With “I Say a Little Prayer” and “The Way You Look Tonight,” you can’t get better. Keep the tissues at hand, though!

Clueless

The soundtrack from this classic teen film is the perfect 90s recap. Counting Crows, Beastie Boys — if you’re a 90s kid, this album is all you need to kick start your Saturday night.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again

Connoisseurs admit that the second of the Mamma Mia musical films have a far more grabbing soundtrack. We loved Pearce Brosnan’s foray into singing in the first film, but the second hits its groove.

A Star Is Born

Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper make this movie soundtrack epic and delicious. While a new film, we foresee this soundtrack lasting through the ages as one of the top ones of all time.

Romeo + Juliet

Next to the youthful Leonardo DiCaprio’s sensational portrayal of Romeo comes the film’s soundtrack. The contemporary film adaptation of Shakespeare’s most famous play captured hearts, young and old. And the soundtrack, featuring Desiree and Quindon Tarver, amongst other stars, is a treasure.

Marie Antoinette

This one’s a fun and flirtatious soundtrack to match a queen who went down in history as frivolous in excess. In her biography, Antonia Fraser puts Antoinette’s excesses down to distraction from the early unhappy days of her marriage to Louis the XVI. Still, the film and soundtrack take a look at the fun parts of her life. Featuring music from The Cure and The Strokes, you’ll want to keep listening.

Beauty and the Beast

Do we even need to say more? Even though we are heading away from the more adult-orientated films, few will deny that this soundtrack is a lasting success. “Tale as old as time…”

Frozen

“Let it go, let it go…” — great advice for most of the things that are not serving us and a truly captivating personal power ballad. It’s okay; we’ve all watched that movie (quite a few times) more than once.

Moana

Alessia Cara’s song “How Far I’ll Go” is another powerful personal strength refrain out of animation film. Produced by the magic of Lin-Manuel Miranda, you can’t go wrong with the Moana soundtrack.

The Takeaway

Whether it's for a nostalgia kick or a reminder of life's essential lessons packaged in gorgeous tunes, these top film soundtracks always have something to pull at the heartstrings.
