Motor movies and their real-world motoring offenses

Cinema is the perfect escape from reality. The appeal is obvious, especially right now – why wouldn’t you want to swap our overcast skies and countless hours indoors for exotic locales and ridiculously addictive action sequences?

And yet, at the same time, we want to know exactly how these movies would work in the real world; could James Bond really get away with being undercover every time, despite looking exactly the same and doing it for the best part of a century?

We can’t answer that one, but we can tell you just how impractical – and illegal – the most exciting motor-related movies and their car chases are. Roughly. Keep scrolling for a breakdown on some of cinema’s biggest films on four wheels, and how much jailtime and licence endorsements the stars would’ve racked up.

Cinema’s most popular movies to feature car chases

Motor Movie Offences - highest grossing films.jpg

Starting with Avengers: Endgame in top spot, we worked down through the list of highest-grossing films and picked out the biggest flicks with car chases. Considering the initial top ten was made up of six films from the Fast & Furious and James Bond franchises, we’ve went with the most successful of each.

Captain America: Winter Soldier, another from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leads the line with the longest jailtime and highest number of motoring offences – 34 to be exact, with more than five of them for every minute of the car chase we watched.

Despite making the third-highest figure at the box office, The Dark Knight Rises features the second-lowest number of motoring offences with only 15. Mind you, he still ends up with nearly 120 points and nine years in prison.

How do they compare to the classics?

Motor Movie Offences - Classic car chase films.jpg

As an average of several car chase top tens, we found The French Connection to be the most popular. Fitting, too, as the film’s main car chase features some of the highest figures for number and rate of motoring offences – putting it in third place overall. Not bad for a film that turns 50 this year.

In fact, only one of the films in our list was filmed after the 90s – The Bourne Supremacy. Despite our findings marking it as the ninth-most popular, it’s only just beaten to the title of most motoring offences by one other. There are 22 of them in all, accruing 182 points in the process.

Gone in 60 Seconds – the ’74 original, not the Nicholas Cage remake – just about beats it on that front, with 203 points and a baffling 6.2 offences per minute of the film’s climax.

On average, the more recent films have a higher number and rate of motoring offences and points. But, going by their combined £3.9bn takings, they’re doing something right – it seems modern audiences prefer more explosions and action than the classic counterparts.

How we worked it out

Looking at box office data (The Numbers) and several car chase top tens (Fandango, Insider, Mental Floss, Money and Little White Lies), we were able to pick out the highest-grossing and most popular motor movies.

We then sat through each of the film’s main car chases and tallied the motoring offences and penalties, as per The Highway Code. Comparing these figures with the duration of each chase gave the offences per minute.

INFOGRAPHIC: The Top Clichés of 100 Rom Coms Revelead

Revealed: The Top Clichés of 100 Rom Coms

These days, there’s plenty of time for a movie marathon – and who doesn’t love a rom com? Whether you’re looking forward to the upcoming Cinderella or the final instalment of To All the Boys, 2021 is packed with perfect binge-worthy love stories that are just a little bit too cheesy – and we’re here for it!

Mattress Online compared 2,000 plot points across 100 romantic comedies to reveal the top clichés from the 1950s until now.

Beware: there might be spoilers ahead. Have we predicted the plot for future rom coms? Read our research to see the most popular plot points and find out how romantic comedies have changed over time.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is the highest-rated rom com, according to reviews

We compared thousands of audience reviews on Rotten Tomatoes to reveal the top-rated rom coms. In the 100 films analysed, Breakfast at Tiffany's came out on top, proving that the 1960's classic will always be a favourite. Here's our full list of top rom coms, based on their audience score. The higher the score, the more positive ratings received.

1. Breakfast at Tiffany's - 91%

2. When Harry Met Sally… - 89%

3-5. Love, Simon, The Big Sick, Groundhog Day - 88%

6. To All The Boys I've Loved Before - 86%

7. The Fault In Our Stars - 87%

8. The 40-Year-Old Virgin - 84%

9. Knocked Up - 83%

10-14. The Photograph, The Half Of It, Last Christmas, About Time, Bridget Jones's Diary - 81%

Rom Com Cliches.jpg

Unsurprisingly, the most common cliché is the couple gets together, with a huge 88% of rom coms resulting in a romantic ending. It wouldn’t be a very good love story if they didn’t.

Other popular plot points include a major difference between the couple, such as their status or a serious age gap (looking at you, Pretty Woman), which is a cliché in almost half of rom coms analysed (45%).

The third most common cliché is the classic escape scene – either an airport dash or the main character running away to a new city – which is seen in 2 out of 5 films, on average. Plus, if you’re wondering where a romantic film will be set, the chances are it’s going to be New York, with over 1 in 3 (35%) featuring The Big Apple.

Mamma Mia! is the most-clichéd rom com

We also compared the number of clichés across the 100 films we studied to show which has the most overall. Mamma Mia! is revealed to be the most-clichéd, with the movie featuring 70% of the common plot points analysed. Here are the most-clichéd movies, with the percent of how many classic clichés they feature.

1. Mamma Mia! - 70%

2-3. Five Feet Apart, How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days - 60%

4. Bridget Jones's Diary - 55%

5-8. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, The Duff, Blended, Something's Gotta Give - 50%

1 in 10 rom coms don’t get a loved-up ending

Although most films see a happy ending, our study shows that 1 in 10 (12%) of romantic films don’t get the loved-up finale, so you might be in for an unhappy break up for your favourite on-screen couple.

The most unromantic rom com moments

Surprisingly, the couple not getting together isn’t the worst thing that could happen in a romantic comedy. We found common plot points that are actually very unromantic. 1 in 3 films (32%) see an ex get involved and 1 in 4 movies (26%) include cheating.

What’s more, you risk watching a total tear-jerker, as we found that 1 in 10 rom coms (9%) result in a main character dying – not really the fun film you were looking for!

Rom Com Cliches1.jpg

Now we know the top plot points, take a look at how rom coms have changed over time.

Less than 1 in 5 rom coms feature an LGBTQ+ character

Our study showed that just 16% of rom coms include a main LGBTQ+ character. Most of these films are from the noughties, where the LGBTQ+ role is normally fulfilled by the ‘gay friend’, a stereotypically flamboyant companion who supports the main character.

What’s acceptable and ‘funny’ changes as society progresses, so while this stereotype was common in the noughties and is often a comedic role, it no longer sits well with reviewers. Just recently, James Corden came under fire for ‘his regressive and clumsy attempts to try and camp it up’ in The Prom.

Young adult rom coms lead the way for LGBTQ+ couples

The good news is that modern, young adult (YA) films are leading the way for authentic LGBTQ+ characters. Our research shows that half of rom coms which feature an LGBTQ+ main character (8%) are of the YA genre, with teen rom coms like The Half of It, Five Feet Apart and Love, Simon praised for their LGBTQ+ representations.

1 in 5 women need a makeover to get their man, according to rom coms

It’s 2021, but it seems that women still need to remove their glasses and put on some lipstick to get their man. We found that 1 in 5 rom coms (18%) include a makeover, involving some kind of physical change to the main character’s appearance.

Fortunately, makeovers are becoming less frequent in modern rom coms. The majority of ‘glow-ups’ (16%) appear in films released in 2015 or earlier, with mostly noughties movies featuring the classic but old-fashioned makeover.

The ‘female journalist’ stereotype is slowly disappearing

Our rom com analysis shows that 1 in 3 rom coms (34%) have a main character who works in media, such as a writer or magazine editor. From back in the ’90s with journalist Annie Reed in Sleepless in Seattle, female protagonists working in media are rife among rom coms – think Bridget Jones, Carrie Bradshaw and Andy Sachs, to name a few.

However, this stereotype is gradually fading away. We found that 45% of noughties rom coms feature a protagonist who works in the media, compared to 24% in movies from 2010 to 2019. The typecast ‘female journalist’ role is also disappearing, as we also see male reporters in modern rom coms, like 2020’s The Photograph and 2019’s Long Shot.

2021’s rom coms to look out for – have we predicted the plot?

Whether you’re bingeing Netflix or Amazon Prime, there are plenty of rom coms to look out for in 2021. Here are our top 5 to watch – have we predicted the plot?

  1. Cinderella - Feb 5th

  2. To All the Boys: Always and Forever - Feb 12th

  3. Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar - Feb 12th

  4. Marry Me - May 14th

  5. The Kissing Booth 3 - TBC

INFOGRAPHIC: 8 Film Characters Who Can’t Afford Their Cars

Movie Image Example.jpg

8 Film Characters Who Can’t Afford Their Cars

We have all been there, we are watching that famous film and idealising over driving that plush car in it and soon had a reality check that its way over our budget. Well believe it or not but according to Moneyshake’s recent study, 8 famous film characters can’t actually afford their iconic motors.

How much should you spend on a car? It’s recommended to pay 15-20% of your salary on a new motor, plus extras like insurance and maintenance. Moneyshake compared the salaries of popular film characters to see how they’d manage if they were to do the same and pay off their car in 1 year.

Their research reveals that this cost-savvy approach simply wouldn’t work in fiction. Explore our findings below to see the 8 motor movie stars who couldn’t afford their cars. We also spoke to expert Ron Hay, President & CEO of Mod Bargains to see how much their performance mods would cost.

Top Findings

  • It would take Bond 126 years to afford a new Aston Martin DB5

  • Batman’s $1 million salary isn’t enough for the Batmobile

  • Dr. Emmett Brown is the thriftiest driver, paying the DeLorean off in 1 year

  • Dominic Toretto’s performance mods would set him back £220k

  • Batman has the highest insurance policy at nearly $28k per year

8 film characters who couldn’t afford their cars

Salary Required Vs Actual .jpg

Cost of Film Characters Insurance Premium

  1. Batman, The Batman - $27,850

  2. James Bond, No Time to Die - $9,063

  3. Driver, Drive - $5,098

  4. Baby, Baby Driver - $4,960

  5. Max Rockatansky, Mad Max - $4,510

  6. Dr. Emmett Brown, Back to the Future - $3,466

  7. Dominic Toretto, F9 - $1,574

  8. K/Joe, Blade Runner 2049 - $1,398

Batman has the highest insurance policy at nearly $28k per year

Not only do film stars have to fork out high prices for their movie motors, but their insurance is extortionate, too. With his prestigious and pricey Batmobile, Batman’s premium is the highest at $27,850.

Time Needed To Pay Off Their Cars

Salary Required Vs Actual .jpg

It would take Bond 126 years to save up for an Aston Martin DB5

When using the 15% rule, it would take even the richest film characters years to save up for their favourite car. With his high-priced DB5, Bond would take the longest.

At the thriftier end, Back to the Future’s Dr. Emmett Brown would take the least amount of time to save. As a well-paid scientist who chose a cheaper DeLorean, Doc would only need a year before he could buy his time machine motor outright.

Further Analysis On The 8 Famous Movie Cars

Batman’s $1 million salary isn’t enough for the Batmobile

Batmobile price: $2.4 million

Annual insurance: $28k

As the CEO of Bruce Wayne Enterprises, Batman earns $1 million per year, according to a recent study. In the upcoming 2022 film The Batman, he’s swapped the Tumbler for a futuristic car that looks like a cross between a Dodge Charge and Ford Mustang.

Since the original Batmobile, a modified Lincoln Futura also by Ford cost $250k to build in 1954 – that’s $2.4 million adjusted for today – Batman would need to earn over $16 million if he wanted to comfortably afford it paying 15% per month, plus his $28k insurance premium. Alternatively, Batman could save for 16 years to buy the Batmobile outright.

James Bond would need to earn $9.3 million to afford a new Aston Martin DB5

Aston Martin DB5 price: $1.4 million

Annual insurance: $9k

The latest Bond instalment No Time to Die will feature four Aston Martins – the Valhalla, the DBS Superlegga, the V8 and the DB5. Mod expert Ron Hays says the classic DB5 is ‘at least a £1 million build. There is no way that old car can perform any of the stunts performed by Bond.’

‘In order to do so, the car would be completely made from scratch. A special chassis made of carbon fiber would be used to keep the car lightweight (2,200 lbs, about half the weight of a modern day car). The suspension would be changed from a live axle to a completely modern day suspension, plus the motor increased in power from its 4-cylinder to a V6.

‘The only original part on the car is the shell for the appearance, giving this specially-built car an approximate cost of £1 million, not including the fancy missiles and specially fitted 007 gadgets!’

According to a recent MI6 job ad, an Intelligence Officer will earn just less than $61.5k a year. So, if Bond wanted to buy his beloved DB5, it would take 153 years to save up, if putting away 15% of his salary. Hopefully, MI6 will foot the bill – especially with his insurance costing $9k.

The No Time to Die trailer also reveals Bond’s DB5 scratched and shot at, which could cost James Bond his annual salary in repair costs.

K/Joe from Blade Runner 2049 would save for 11 years to buy a Spinner

Spinner price: $99k

Annual insurance: $1.4k

Spinners – the flying cars from the Blade Runner films – don’t come cheap, not even for police officer K, nicknamed Joe, whose own spinner is Peugeot-branded in Blade Runner 2049. While we don’t know how much the futuristic car would cost, if we compare it to Peugeot’s latest innovation, the e-Legend, Joe would need to save for 11 years on his $59k policeman salary to buy it.

Dominic Toretto’s Dodge Charger is cheaper, but speed mods cost $301k

Dodge Charger 500 price: $51k

Annual insurance: $1.6k

Professional speed racers are said to earn just short of $200k, which means Dominic Toretto from the Fast and Furious Franchise would only need to save for 2 years to buy his F9 Dodge Charger. However, that’s just if he wanted to buy the car and pay for his insurance.

Ron Hay says, “Toretto would have sent his 1970 Dodge Charger to a Resto Mod shop that removed every part, redid the chassis, plus a full motor build, full drivetrain, body tub, custom wheels and slick tyres. This would be approximately 2-3 years of labour at a cost of $250k-$301k for a 900HP straightline beast that can do a quarter of a mile in 9 seconds.”

Mad Max would need to save for 6 years for his Ford Falcon XB

Ford Falcon XB price: $50k

Annual insurance: $4.5k

Max Rockatansky of Mad Max drives the Interceptor, a Ford Falcon XB that costs around $50k to buy outright. Before leaving the Main Force Patrol, officer Max would have earned around $58.5k, meaning it would take around 6 years of saving before he could drive his yellow motor.

Baby Driver star may return to crime to drive his Subaru Impreza with $8k mods

Subaru Impreza price: $47k

Annual insurance: $5k

After leaving behind a life of crime, ex-getaway driver Baby would be earning around $23k a year while delivering pizzas. But if the Baby Driver character wanted to buy a new Subaru Impreza, his choice of car in the film, he’d need to save for 14 years before he could afford it.

That’s not to mention the price of his $5k insurance, which is likely higher as a young driver, plus his performance mods. Ron Hay explains, ‘This seemingly factory-looking vehicle has a lot of other hidden modifications to help it perform – mostly rally spec suspension modification with very little power added. This would cost approximately $8k in modifications for a car that is about 300HP but, if in the right hands of a skilled driver, can do some incredible stunts.’

Dr. Emmett Brown is the thriftiest film character

DeLorean price: $44k

Annual insurance: $3.5k

With a high salary and a cheaper car, Back to the Future’s Dr. Emmett Brown is the most cost-savvy star. As a scientist, Doc will earn around $208k, but his DeLorean is only $43.6k to buy. Even with his $3.5k insurance policy, Doc would be able to save up enough to buy his time machine in just 1 year.

Drive star has the cheapest car at $42 thousand dollars

Chevrolet Malibu price: $42k

Annual insurance: $5k

Opting for a Chevrolet Malibu, the unnamed driver from Drive has the cheapest car in all movies analysed, costing $42k to buy. As a mechanic, the driver can probably complete any repairs himself, so at least his maintenance costs would be low.

Find more motor research and entertainment in the Moneyshake blog, from the price of more pop culture cars to how many motors are made in a minute by the biggest manufacturers. And if you don’t want to wait to buy a new car like these film stars, see our latest car lease deals available.

Methodology

We compared multiple sources to create character profiles, their salary data and car buying costs. Where the character is not from the UK, their salary has been analysed from their respective country and converted to GBP using XE.com. Exchange rate at the time of calculations was £1 to $1.3678.

Insurance quotes were created through Compare the Market by using the fictional profile and an average policy price recorded. For all characters, where an element of the profile could not be exact from a reputable source, the closest match has been provided. All data collected in January 2021

Data correct as of February 2021.

How To Improve Your TV Set Up At Home?

Watching television at home has never been more popular than it is right now, mainly due to companies such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video which has given the consumer a whole host of their favourite shows to indulge in. Due to this, we are now seeing more and more people investing in their home set-ups to ensure that they are getting the ultimate experience whilst watching TV from home.

The most important thing when it comes to watching television from home is of course the TV as its this that you will use to watch your content on. The TV market is now so broad that it can sometimes be overwhelming when it comes to purchasing a TV and so we thought we’d give you some pointers in the right direction. OLED is the new trend on the market and if your budget allows, we recommend purchasing an OLED TV due to the true-black colours, ultra-thin screens and they are now highly efficient in terms of energy ratings.

OLED TV’s would not have been able to be brought to consumers if it wasn’t for the rapid rise in technology shown on the market. Other industries have been able to benefit from this, including online casinos with some sites here that have been able to showcase a high quality casino experience for all due to the rapid rise in technology on their non-gamstop markets.

This next addition is what will take your home TV set up to the next level as a soundbar or surround-sound system will ensure that you really are getting that cinema effect from the comfort of your own home. A soundbar is a very simple addition and can be very affordable now on the market and will ensure that you are creating an environment perfect for your chosen content.

Of course, the drawback to going to the cinema is the seating that they provide as many have described just how uncomfortable the seating is there but when at home, you are able to invest in any seating that you prefer. Getting a reclining sofa, or even a singular seat with a foot stool, or anything that provides you with the comfort that you desire.

And last but not least, creating an atmosphere with the lighting that you desire for your home set-up can really top off the best experience. You want to ensure that your set-up isn’t too light so avoiding a room where there is lots of natural light from windows would be a start or even installing some blackout blinds.

Top Documentaries On Cannabis According To Research

by Crystal M. Wilson

While cannabis originated centuries ago, it is only recently that the popularity of the herb skyrocketed. People worldwide are now using cannabis for both recreational and medicinal reasons. With more scientific evidence and widespread legalization, cannabis is becoming a prominent part of almost every industry on the spectrum. With the increasing use of cannabis, it has also managed to secure a place in pop culture. You can find cannabis use in movies or shows, but there is still a lack of accurate information. Filmmakers are aiming to approach the topic of cannabis with care and offer informative documentaries.

Which are the best cannabis documentaries as per research?

Gone are the times when cannabis was merely a recreational drug. People gradually realize its therapeutic benefits, and it is taking a spot at the forefront of media. You can find new research documentaries emerging each day, making it daunting to pick the most informative ones.

Are you looking for documentaries filled with research to help enlighten you about this magical herb-cannabis?

Here are a few documentaries every cannabis enthusiast will enjoy watching:

1. Weediquette (2017)

Weediquette is a documentary series made for Vice that turned into a full-blown TV series. It revolves around the host and Vice correspondent Krishna Andavolu as he chronicles around the culture, science, and legalization of marijuana. The show also features episodes on highly complex issues like veterans with PTSD using cannabis to control the symptoms and even covers Uruguay’s fully legal market. If you want to look at the cannabis market with some of the most distinct angles, Weediquette is a must-watch. Each episode of the series takes an incredibly insightful and informative stance. Besides that, the host’s charm will make the documentary series an easy binge-watch for you. The best way to enjoy this documentary is with relaxing Sunday Scaries gummies.

2. The Culture High (2014)

The Culture High is a feature-length documentary film directed by Brett Harvey, which came out in 2014. The unique documentary offers a structural insight into the “War on Drugs,” starting from President Nixon to President Obama. It is a scathing indictment of how rich and powerful people often hamper people’s right to access cannabis and use it with freedom. Even though cannabis is still not legal on a Federal level, the documentary encompasses reasons that led to the changes in the legalization of cannabis. With guest interviews of Sir Richard Branson and Wiz Khalifa, it sets apart myths from the truth about the raging War on Drugs.

3. Rolling Papers (2015)

The legalization of cannabis in Colorado in 2015 paved the way for a whole new industry overnight. The Denver Post hired a new weed editor to oversee the coverage of the news desk. The documentary Rolling Papers by Mitch Dickman offers an exclusive look at how The Denver Post covered the initial days after the legalization of cannabis. It also features how consumers reacted to the changes happening in the cannabis arena. The documentary is an eccentric collection of experiences and stories that brings up interesting facts about the new cannabis market. For the audience who wants to dig deeper into the market and go beyond the obvious, this documentary will offer just that.

4. Grass Is Greener (2019)

An entertaining yet educational Netflix documentary, Grass Is Greener deserves a spot on your list. It involves the journey of Fab Five Freddy or Fred Brathwaite, a hip-hop legend. The documentary allows you to learn the history of illegal cannabis use in the US and its role in the music industry. It takes you through the journey starting from the jazz era dominated by Louis Armstrong, through the emergence of the War on Drugs, and ends with the modern-day music industry. You can also listen to interviews of musicians like Snoop Dogg and Damien Marley. As a whole, the documentary highlights the inequities in the cannabis industry even though it has turned into a big industry.

5. Weed The People (2018)

When non-users hear the word cannabis, the first thing that pops in their heads is stoners and 4/20. The documentary Weed The People tried to depict a different and far more critical side of the battle for legalization. While directing the documentary, the director Abby Epstein aims to present a closer look at the struggle of individuals and families who use cannabis to battle against cancer. Apart from addressing the massive structural issue, the documentary is also entertaining and sweet at times. Despite the serious tone, it is a touching story about the medicinal value of cannabis and the struggle of people trying to access it legally.

Final Thoughts

While cannabis is rapidly gaining popularity, there are still plenty of people who don’t know much about it. Whether it is about methods of consumption, dosage, its effects, or scientific evidence, there is still a lack of clarity. Plenty of documentaries are coming up now to help educate the masses. If you’re planning to learn more about cannabis, you can start your research by watching the documentaries listed above!

EDITORIAL: How Watching TV and Movies Has Evolved In Past Couple Decades

Image: Cult Box

Image: Cult Box

Watching TV across the globe has been a pastime for many of us now for nearly a century now and has become hugely popular as the main form of entertainment within the household. However, the way that we watch television and movies at home has dramatically changed over this period, as many of us won’t ever remember VCR’s, antennas or even TV’s that weighted a tonne and so today we thought we’d look at how this industry has changed over the past couple of decades.

Back in the late 90’s, the world was shocked when the introduction of DVD discs and DVD players were brought onto the market and many were impressed with how this could be translated and watched at home. DVDs offered a more impressive viewing experience in terms of picture quality than previous models such as the VHS tape. The DVD looked like its reign at the top of TV and Movie watching at home would never end, however with the birth of the internet, they were quickly fizzled out.

The main reason as to why they were fizzled out is due to the introduction back in 2010 when Netflix burst onto the scene and became the powerhouse in the industry where we certainly cannot imagine a world without Netflix or other streaming services. These eventually seen the end of DVD’s and discs all together as we now move to more digital avenues. Not only that, but businesses such as Blockbuster which ended up going bankrupt due to this shift in pattern in the TV and Movie scene.

One industry that has also been able to benefit from the internet is the online casino world, like these for example which are offering UK casinos accepting credit cards for all players. Gone are the days of visiting a land-based casino where you now play on your favourite casino games from the comfort of your own home.

Finally, does this mean that these streaming sites are eventually going to see the end of cable subscriptions and maybe even cinemas moving forward? Cable subscriptions are expensive and now comparing to what you get on Netflix for the price is certainly something that consumers will be considering due to the expense of these services. However, we do believe that cinemas will be able to continue pulling in consumers as the experience that they have on offer is unbeaten and the only way to view the latest blockbusters on the market so we do believe it will be hard to knock them off the top spot.

The Benefits of Using a Web Design and Social Media Agency

A few years ago, the buzz around web design and social media was that websites and their client's performance were becoming stale. Websites weren't being updated as often as they should be and web pages weren't getting a second lease on life as they should be. In addition to this, search engine algorithms used by Google and other companies were beginning to take notice of these "dead" or outdated websites and penalize them accordingly. This has sparked an overhaul in web design and social media practices across the board in order to keep up with the changing times, keeping Google happy, and helping clients to find their footing in the web design and social media market.

The social media agency Manchester offers their clients a number of services. They can help you with search engine optimization (SEO), social networking optimization (SMO), social bookmarking, and article marketing, to name a few. SEO is very important in the world of the twenty-first century, and having high quality, fresh content in place on your site is essential. If people can find you, they will likely return, and if they can share that content with their friends, they will likely recommend your site to others, building your brand's reputation online and increasing your presence in the marketplace.

Another important element of the web design and social media agency Manchester's portfolio is their extensive brand positioning case study. They have handled many brand positioning cases in the past, so they know what works and what doesn't. They can show you how to create a "call to action" for your audience, how to create content that encourages people to interact with you, and even how to create a compelling call to action buttons and calls to action links that get your audience to interact with you. These are all important elements to the web design and social media agency Manchester helps you create. In fact, these are some of the most important skills a company looking to hire such an agency could have.

The web design and social media agency Manchester also know how to optimize your pages and posts for search engines. This isn't the kind of optimization that you do once and then forget about, but rather an ongoing process that requires your website to be "on topic" at all times, updated and reported so that it has the maximum chance of being found when someone searches for your products or services. SEO is one way to ensure that this happens.

The web design and social media agency Manchester can also provide you with social media accounts that can reach your target demographic more effectively than you could by yourself. Facebook, for example, offers millions of users, and these are the folks you want to reach your brand. Twitter is another great choice, as it allows you to follow other people and interact with them on a more personalized level. You can post messages on these accounts in real time, as well as check out what they are posting via RSS feeds. These feeds can be very targeted, allowing you to ensure that what you post is only to those people who are interested in what you have to say.

You may not think that there's much benefit in using a web design and social media agency, but you would be surprised. After all, you might be able to handle the task all on your own, but what good is the internet if you aren't using it to the best of your ability? There is certainly more to this sort of work than meets the eye, and you need someone who knows what they're doing. So contact a web design and social media agency today for more information.

4 Binge-Worthy Cannabis Documentaries To Watch This Weekend

Cannabis is exploding in popularity and is experiencing legalization around the world. This massive new trend is also a media sensation, with articles, videos, and blogs available in print and online.

Documentaries are also popping up as the newest trend in film making, and cannabis is fast becoming the darling of this booming industry. With so many people of all ages yearning to learn more about this natural, history-rich plant, it makes sense that inspired directors are offering documentaries.

Besides being educational, documentaries about cannabis are often entertaining. Many of today’s writers and directors offer a humorous perspective about the history, legislation, and current state of cannabis and its many fans.

People want to be educated about cannabis and are hungry for information about medicinal marijuana, a guide to roll joints, full flavor hemp cigarettes, the safest natural rolling paper,  and the business opportunities behind this cultural phenomenon.

Whether you are looking for a science-based medical marijuana film, research about the legalization of cannabis, or some plain old fun, there is an excellent documentary for you.

Here are the 4-binge worthy documentaries to treat yourself to this weekend.

1. For the People, by the People: Weed the People

Actress Rick Lake is a famous Hollywood actress with a passion for cannabis reform. With renowned director Abby Epstein, Lake created a moving documentary that takes a deep dive into medical marijuana.

Though well researched, this film’s poetry relies upon impactful stories from real people who grapple with a devastating illness and severe pain.

The mesmerizing film focuses on medical weed powers while sharing moving personal stories from families facing life-and-death medical issues.

Lake used her personal experiences helping a young girl suffering from full-body tumors, undergoing chemotherapy, and in agony. Through her subject's painful experiences and family’s search for relief for their daughter, the message that cannabis can help many people with serious conditions is prominent in this film.

Using studies that link cannabis oil to creating anti-tumoral effects, Lake realized she had an important story to share, which resulted in creating Weed the People. You can see this documentary on Netflix.

2. Super High Me - A Comic’s Tale

Comedian Doug Benson created the 2007 hit Super High Me, a film delving into the evolution of cannabis laws and the comic's experiment with getting high. As Benson explains, most people believe getting high from cannabis is dangerous, but in his opinion, they're wrong.

Benson mimics the 2004 documentary about fast-food called Super Size Me by taking a total of one-month to cleanse from cannabis and then doing the exact opposite. He filmed it all and documented the differences between his abstinence from cannabis and his daily smoking experience.

For an entire month, Benson lit up and smoked cannabis daily and conducted his experiment. His experiences, education, and sometimes hilarious moments often burst the bubble of what many once thought was wrong with cannabis.

Unlike other documentaries, Super High Me proves a point while entertaining you the entire duration of the film. Leave it to a gifted comic to find the truth and comedy between what anti-cannabis and pro-cannabis people believe.

This film is a not-to-miss documentary.

During his 30-day pot binge, he improved his SAT scores while high! Enjoy this documentary on Amazon.

3. The Culture High has Legal News

If you like knowing about the complex legalization of cannabis worldwide, check out The Culture High on Amazon. This film educates you about the historical prohibitions of cannabis, the spectacularly failed 'war on drugs,' and why cultural mores led to cannabis being illegal in the first place.

The filmmakers do not shy away from the hard truths about the legalization of cannabis, from the legal landscape in history to current times.

In the US, cannabis became illegal during the Depression in the 1930s, inspired by Americans' anti-immigrant fears of Mexicans.

Real-life dealers, doctors, legal authorities, and others offer an exciting trip into the world of cannabis from a legal perspective.

Stand-out appearances by Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dog, Sir Richard Branson, and others reveal today's celebrity star cannabis activists' passionate nature. See it on Amazon.

4. Have a Laugh with Reefer Madness

If you're looking for a bit of  vintage hilarity, check out the 1936 documentary Reefer Madness.

Image: https://ift.tt/3qQDuL9

This film is the most unintentional, wildly comical film about marijuana made. Now hailed as a classic film, Reefer Madness will have you laughing aloud while dramatically showing the evils of cannabis.

In the film, you meet a group of teenagers addicted to "the burning weed with its roots in hell," aka marijuana. Calling the effects of cannabis "insanity," the plot centers around kids who kill, die by suicide and lose their minds, all due to a puff of pot.

You can see this rip-roaring funny documentary on Hulu.

Takeaway

4 Valuable Life Lessons We Can Learn From Casino Movies

4 Valuable Life Lessons We Can Learn From Casino Movies

Casino movies are always fun to watch, especially if you are a big fan of gambling and games as well. Aside from the fact that you are able to relate to the stars of these films, you can also learn a few valuable life lessons from these flicks too. There are many casino films out there but these are the ones that had lessons that stuck with us the most.

21 - It Works To Have A System

21 is one of the most memorable casino films and it stars an up-and-coming cast joined by veteran actor, Kevin Spacey. In this casino flick, a group of MIT students led by the professor is on a mission to run Las Vegas dry through blackjack games. To win these games, the group comes up with a unique system that includes card counting. Counting cards is a tough practice to master. However, that’s not the lesson here. The real lesson is that it pays to have a system. Though they have failed on numerous occasions, the students have shown that there’s always a way to succeed and that’s if you carefully plan things out.

The Hangover - Live Life To The Fullest

Though technically not a casino film, The Hangover’s main premise is about a group of guys on a bachelor party gone wrong in Las Vegas. A lot of casino themes are involved. It’s a stressful comedy that teaches us the importance of living life to the fullest - while understanding that there are consequences to be had as well.

Whichever way you look at it, The Hangover is just mostly about understanding what going all-out means and how much fun there is to be had in it. The professionals from Casino-Wise.com explain that this dark comedy that involves gambling isn’t just about having fun. Throughout the story, you’ll come to realize that it’s all about brotherhood too that’s made more fun by the excitement only casinos can provide.

Ocean’s Eleven - Team Work Makes The Dream Work

Hey, we’re not encouraging you to pull off a heist or anything. This iconic casino heist film tells us how important it is for a group to function like clockwork. One small misunderstanding between one another could result in even the best plans from failing. Aside from this neat lesson, Ocean’s Eleven is arguably one of the best casino films out there too. Make sure to check it out if you’ve yet to see it.

The Sting - Cheaters Don’t Win

This 1970’s film starring Robert Redford is about a group of conmen who want to exact revenge on a mob boss by conning him out of his money through a game of poker. It’s dangerous for the conmen to try and dupe the mob boss but their efforts pay off.

By the end of their con, the mob boss lost all of his money despite being a cheater himself. This was because if he exposed the antics of the conmen, he himself would have to admit that he is cheating too. Never cheat in life as it will come back to haunt you in ways you can’t imagine.

Casino films aren’t all about the glitz and the glamour of the risky lifestyle. It’s also about some important life lessons you can apply not just in gambling, but also in your daily life. Take a look at some of the movies stated above and you’ll certainly see why.

EDITORIAL: Changes in the Film Industry Due to COVID-19

Changes in the Film Industry Due to COVID-19

by Devin Caldwell

The movie industry was always going to head in the direction of releasing some films straight to online streaming sites rather than to movie theaters. That trend had already started with the likes of HBO original movies but COVID-19 accelerated it. In 2020 the movie industry only made two billion dollars while in 2019 it made over 10 billion.

Watching New Movies From Home

Since many Americans were either in quarantine or under stay-at-home advisories for a big part of 2020, watching movies from home became a very popular thing to do. New releases were available to watch streaming via Amazon Prime from $5.99 to $19.99, which is less than the price of a movie ticket. Films like "Songbird" and "Promising Young Woman" and family favorites like "The Croods: a New Age" that were slated for release when COVID hit, went right to streaming sites instead.

A trip to the movie theater had become an expensive occasion in the years before the Coronavirus. Unlike Amazon Prime where one "ticket" allows the whole family to watch, at theaters, everyone needs their own ticket. Not only that, but food and drinks in the lobby are incredibly marked up in price. The final straw is when you pay all that money and still have to put up with the other theater-goers' noise and movements.

Currently, many families who enjoy movies have large screen TVs installed at home, which make the film experience much better than it was on a small screen. At-home sound systems have improved drastically as well.

This makes the home movie experience much more comfortable and cheaper than the theater one. Plus there is no need to leave the house and find a parking spot. Some city movie theaters can charge up to $40.00 just for parking and that's on top of the cost of the movie and snacks.

The home film experience is an even cheaper event if your home is solar-powered and you have a solar battery. These batteries enable you to use the power your panels took in during the day to power your entertainment center at night.

With so many Americans stuck inside, lots of new releases that should have been seen in a theater were watched at home. Time will tell if this is the future of movie-going or if there will be a mass exodus back to theaters when it's allowed.

Watching New Movies Outside

The drive-in theater had all but died out. A few lingering venues, mostly in summer vacation hotspots, saw a huge increase in popularity last summer. Even in the city or in unlikely places like parking lots, ambitious property owners invested in outdoor movie screens.

With the return of outdoor movies, restaurant owners were able to continue making a profit when indoor dining was restricted. Many cleverly set up screens in their parking lots as an enticement and delivered meals to the vehicles.

Homeowners with yards also purchased inflatable screens and watched movies again with friends while social distancing.

Where will We Watch Movies in the Future?

Ultimately, though, newly released movies in the theater will make a comeback. The return to theaters may be slow after COVID-19 has been conquered but many have missed the movie theater event and will be sure to return as soon as possible.

Despite the fact that most movie theaters have been closed for the better part of a year, there is sure to be a grand re-opening. Although watching at home can be more convenient, nothing can replace the comfort of the red velvet seats, the giant screen and the camaraderie of the other theater-goers (even if they sometimes can be annoying.)

Many fast-thinking theaters have done things like sell tickets to watch movies online or to name theater seats after donors. Now that the restrictions are lifting, the future could be bright for the venues that stuck it out and for the movie industry itself. People will always love going to the movies.
