Top 5 Business Movies to Stay Inspired

Business movies have become popular in recent years and more people want to watch some success stories where they draw their inspiration. If you want to succeed in the business world, you have to have a lot of knowledge and start focusing on technical things and specific behaviors in order to prepare for the journey.

Nowadays, there are many films that tell a business story and all the challenges and triumphs the leaders encounter. It is a very good way to come up with an idea to improve your business or see new possibilities. In this article, we will go through some of the best business movies and see what are they about.

1. Making Fun: The Story of Funko

Most of the business movies are documentaries which are the case in this one. Making Fun will take you for a wild ride where a cultural phenomenon is happening as they transformed a garage startup into a huge worldwide business. Nostalgia is the best weapon in the business as many entrepreneurs know, and this is one of the best examples. The use of unique marketing strategies that was hard to explain at that time is the only thing that makes their business blow up and gains incredible revenue. It is a very good film to draw inspiration from.

2. The Imitation Game

In order to become a great business leader, you’ll have to know how to solve challenges that no one else can. Every personality must be accompanied by specific skill set for business which has to be practiced.

This movie is released in 2014 and it is about WWII and the true story behind Alan Turning (Benedict Cumberbatch) as he is incredible mathematician who gets into the British M16 in order to crack Nazi unbreakable code. This is not some sort of documentary about business success story, but there are a lot of elements in this movie that will motivate you to try harder.

3. Julie & Julia

This is a movie about the connection between Julia Child, the woman known about her mastery of French cuisine and interesting TV shows, and Julie Powell which gets fed up with the job that she has and decides to make all 500+ recipes from Julia’s Child’s cookbook “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”. In this movie, we can see real passion that gets everyone going and a great message where you pursue your dreams no matter what.

4. I Don’t Know How She Does It

Becoming an independent leader requires special skills and knowledge to face all the problems and opportunities. Also, you have to understand that the playing field of men and women is equal in the business world. Sarah Jessica Parker plays as a very busy mom trying to balance their family life with career needs. This movie is the perfect real-life example between the frustrating and tough business world and the calm family life that you must get in order.

5. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

New financial concepts are the things that put the biggest companies on the map. This film is the perfect example, even if you do not pursue a wall-street or financial career. The film is about all the problems, greed, appearances and great business strategy. People change when they come to power, which is sort of the point of the movie. It features many personalities where you can draw all the good ones.

These are some of the best business movies that you can get your inspiration from. Sports movies, like Moneyball, that explain how to thrive in the betting odds of baseball or football, are also inspiring ones that can be helpful for your business.

It is always to educate more about the business world even if you are not a business owner just because you don’t know what is coming next. You might even organize a cinema afternoon with your employees, where you put up one of this movies, with some popcorn on the side. It is a good activity, plus they will be grateful and understand you are trying to show them some leadership lessons.

MEDIA APPEARANCE: David Ehrlich's IndieWire Critics Survey on November 4, 2019

indiewirelogo.jpg

Notable and notorious IndieWire film critic David Ehrlich recently put out a social media call for film critic peers to join a weekly survey to discuss movie topics, answer questions, and highlight their work.  Representing Every Movie Has a Lesson, I, along with over 60 other emerging and established film critics including some of my fellow Chicago Indie Critics members and Aaron White of Feelin’ Film, accepted the invitation to participate.  I'm honored by the opportunity, and I hope my responses are chosen each week.

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What streaming platforms do you currently subscribe to, and why?

This was nice and informative question this week and I was glad to brag on finding free things. Folks, let me tell you the power of a regular library card. You can’t beat FREE. Look locally if your library or library system supports the Hoopla Digital and Kanopy streaming services. The wealth of content available is outstanding for something that doesn’t cost you a dime. If you’re a frugal working dad and cord-cutter like me, I cannot recommend them enough. I was the one person this week namedropping Hoopla and one of only three touting Kanopy. Seek them out.

MEDIA APPEARANCE: Quoted on Quality Comix discussing "The Evolution of The Joker"

I was approached recently for a collaboration opportunity by Quality Comix, a successful comic sales website which puts out their own editorial content alongside their marketplace. They were working on a long-form article on the 80-year history of Batman’s greatest nemesis, The Joker. The writers there enjoyed my Joker review and I was thankful to be considered and included. The lead question for a short blurb was a character analysis outlining major actions, motivations, or character developments throughout the character’s film incarnations. Here was my quoted answer:

MEDIA APPEARANCE: Guest on the "Feelin' Film" podcast for "Memphis Belle"

WordpressBanner.png

I had the honor and pleasure this past week to join the war-movie-loving hosts on the Feelin' Film Podcast talking about a true underseeen throwback geme: 1990’s Memphis Belle directed by 90s hitmaker Michael Caton-Jones. This podcast plane ride was celebrating Veteran’s Day week in conjunction with the new Midway movie arriving in theaters this week. Memphis Belle was a worn-out VHS childhood favorite of my brother and me. Patrick had that lifelong affinity as well and Aaron, the former Navy man, had nothing but respect.  Take a listen below

MEDIA APPEARANCE: Guest on the "Kicking the Seat" YouTube channel talking "Jojo Rabbit"

Screenshot - 8_8_2019 , 3_11_40 PM.png

When you see a fellow film critic love a movie you loved too, it’s like an invisible fist-bump or high-five. When I heard friend-of-the-page Ian Simmons of the Kicking the Seat podcast adore Jojo Rabbit, I could not help but nag him to talk about it. He had already covered the film with critic Pat McDonald of Hollywood Chicago for his podcast, but wanted to bring me in for a video to balance the takes out after Pat was a little lukewarm on it compared to Ian and I. Enjoy Ian and I singing spoiler-free praise for Jojo Rabbit on his YouTube channel. Give Ian’s channel a new subscriber!

Stand Out Stats

  • Unlike other franchises that were originally animated films, the majority of The Lion King’s revenue comes from musical theatre.

  • Popular TV show Friends brought in $3.5 billion through TV syndication to networks around the world, more than any other television series by far.

  • Due to the fanbase surrounding The Lord Of The Rings, despite its box office success the franchise still made more money through book sales.

  • Films generally make most of their money through the box office with the exceptionof Star Wars, which makes more money through selling merchandise.

INFOGRAPHIC QUIZ: Reckon You Know Movie Cars?

(Image: shutterstock.com)

TV CAR WIND TUNNEL QUIZ

Many cars, especially those designed and manufactured in the modern era, are put through strict, rigorous testing before they are released to the public.

One of the most important tests involves checking how aerodynamic the car is. This is carried out by placing the car in a wind tunnel and then white smoke is blown towards the car, so the key parts that impact aerodynamism are clearly visible to the naked eye. It forms a crucial part of the production process to understand if the car is optimal in its design and shape.

One of the things that makes cars iconic is their extremely distinct shapes, especially those known in pop culture – and that’s clearly evident during aerodynamic testing. That got us thinking, just how distinctive are some of the world's famous cars? And would it be possible to identify a car in a wind tunnel using just the outline of the smoke alone?

The fine folks at Select Car Leasing have chosen 10 of the of the most iconic TV cars and put them through our unique virtual wind tunnel. When you’re first presented with one of our 10 cars, you’ll be asked which car you’re looking at. The catch? – the car will be invisible. Your clue to guess the car is the outline of the smoke sweeping across the screen. When you select your answer, the car in the wind tunnel will then appear to let you know if you have made the correct choice.

You can try our mobile version above, or give yourself the best chance of success with our full screen version here. Keep an eye out for a special easter egg at the end - the only clue we can give you is "watch out for the helicopter!"
