Hangover-Free Mornings: Top Strategies To Overcome Post-Party Blues
So you’ve woken up with a hangover after a big night out and are looking for ways to get rid of your symptoms fast. Fret not - you probably already have most of these remedies in your home. Let’s take a look at four ways you can recover from a hangover quickly.
1. Refuel and Rehydrate
Just because you’ve seen this advice before doesn’t mean it won’t help. However, before you reach into your fridge for the closest food or drink item, remember that what you eat and drink can help or harm your recovery time.
For hydration
Do drink: Water, juice, electrolyte solutions, coconut water, and smoothies can replenish fluids, electrolytes, and vitamins lost during a night of drinking.
Don’t drink: Coffee, tea, caffeinated beverages, or more alcohol. All of these drinks can further dehydrate you and cause your symptoms to linger.
If you’re feeling nauseous, consider drinking ginger tea. The tea can rehydrate you, and ginger has a natural anti-nausea effect.
For food
While it’s tempting to reach for greasy foods such as pizza or nachos, they can exacerbate nausea and cause inflammation, which may slow your hangover recovery.
If your stomach is up for it, choose a nourishing meal featuring proteins, vitamins and minerals, and fiber to help your body recover faster. Chicken noodle soup may be an excellent option as it can nourish, rehydrate, and help soothe an upset stomach all at once.
If you are feeling nauseous, the BRAT diet - Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast - can help you replenish your body while being gentle on your stomach.
2. Rest
When it comes to overcoming a hangover, rest is one of the most important things you can do to help get rid of symptoms quickly. Sleep helps your body detox and repair. The less you sleep, the more likely your hangover symptoms will be severe.
Additionally, alcohol can negatively impact your quality of sleep. So, although you may fall asleep faster, you may get less deep and REM sleep overall, paving the way for fatigue on top of hangover symptoms. To avoid sleep disruptions, make sure to hydrate and eat something nourishing before going to sleep. This can help prevent a hangover and promote a more restful night of shut-eye.
3. Over-the-Counter Medications
You likely have some over-the-counter medications in your cabinet to help alleviate symptoms.
Anti-nausea medications can help with nausea and vomiting
Antacids can help reduce excess acids in your stomach
Anti-inflammatory medications can help with body aches and headaches; however, avoid NSAIDs and ibuprofen, as they can damage your liver in conjunction with alcohol.
Make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the package. Although it may be tempting to take more than recommended to help get rid of symptoms faster, doing so can cause potential issues such as overdose.
4. Get a Hangover IV Treatment
A hangover IV treatment is an innovative way to help improve symptoms fast. This therapy utilizes IV fluids and a blend of ingredients that are administered directly into your bloodstream.
The exact ingredients in a Hangover IV may vary depending on your provider, but they generally contain:
Sterile saline fluids
Vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes
Medications to combat symptoms such as nausea, inflammation, and body aches
A hangover IV can help improve symptoms because direct administration provides instant hydration and allows your cells fast access to the ingredients in your infusion. Additionally, this treatment bypasses the digestive system and any stomach upset you may be experiencing.
Treatments typically take less than an hour. Mobile services offer infusions at your home, hotel, or office, making it fast and easy to get relief from your symptoms.
Top Tips For Preventing Hangovers
Although these tips may not help if you already have a hangover, you can employ these strategies during your next big night out to help prevent a hangover.
Eat and hydrate before you go to avoid putting alcohol onto an empty stomach
Snack throughout the night to help absorb alcohol and replenish nutrients lost while drinking.
Try to drink one glass of water between alcoholic drinks.
Choose alcohol with low levels of congeners - a natural byproduct of the fermentation process that can worsen hangover symptoms - such as vodka and beer.
Stop drinking alcohol at least an hour before you go to sleep and finish your night with water to help avoid sleep disruptions.
Last Words
Hangovers are never a fun experience, but fortunately, there is plenty you can do to help get rid of them faster. From choosing the best hydrating beverages to using an IV infusion to replenish your body, using a combination of techniques can help you feel better quickly.
If your hangover is particularly severe, a hangover IV may be the most effective way to relieve your symptoms promptly since ingredients are administered directly into your bloodstream.
Throughout Hollywood’s male-dominated history, most of the top positions working on a movie, from producers and writers to the true auteur of the film, the director, have been occupied by men. But even throughout that male-dominated history, women have fought to have their voices heard and their contributions recognized.
Now, the tables are turning, if ever so slightly. Still, even though more films now are directed by women than ever before, only seven women have been nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards. But those films and those nominees are making an impact—two of the last three Best Director statuettes have gone to women, Chloe Zhao for Nomadland in 2021 and Jane Campion for The Power of the Dog in 2022.
Just in time for Greta Gerwig’s surefire hit Barbie to hit the screen, the team at CenturyLinkQuote.com decided to find out which female-directed film is on people’s minds—and in their web browsers—across the nation, by state.
The Most Searched Female-Directed Film by State
Female-Directed Film Facts and Figures
Using search volume we determined the level of interest by state to rank our female-directed films. Included in the infographic below is more about each movie and director, including how well the films performed at the box office and during award season and the critical consensus from Rotten Tomatoes.
Interesting Findings
The most searched film in the most states (17) is also the highest-grossing film from a solo female director: Wonder Woman (2017). Director Patty Jenkins broke new ground in the superhero genre as the first female director to direct a film with a budget greater than $100 million—and became the highest-paid female director in history when she signed on to direct the sequel WW84.
12 states searched most for The Matrix. A game-changing action/sci-fi blockbuster from Lana and Lilly Wachowski, The Matrix won every category in which it received an Oscar nom in 2000, along with 2 BAFTA awards and a Grammy for best soundtrack album. Whoa!
Acclaimed action director Kathryn Bigelow became the first woman to win the Best Director Oscar with 2008’s The Hurt Locker.
Upon release, American Psycho was criticized for its violence and misogyny—director Mary Harron disagrees, calling it a subversive and feminist film. Its condemnation of toxic masculinity is still relevant more than 20 years later.
In 2022, women comprised 24% of directors, writers, producers, editors, and cinematographers working on the top 250 grossing films, down 1% from 2021.
To identify each state’s most searched female-directed film, we gathered data on films directed by women from iMDB, then used SEMRush’s keyword volume analysis to determine the 15 films with the most search volume. Using Google Trends, we found which of those 15 was most searched by state.

One of the best tricks a caper movie can pull is getting its viewers to root for the criminal. Typically, we’re pining for the righteous downfall, not a lucky escape, from the long arm of the law. Thanks to a very clever and uncommon twist that drops early on, Susie Searches has you, for a good while anyway, shaking your pom-poms and crossing your fingers for the guilty party. Riding that scandalous plot wave makes for an entertaining yarn of dark comedy.
The Susie of Susie Searches is Wade College student Susie Wallis, played by Kiersey Clemons of Hearts Beat Loud and Somebody I Used to Know. In person, Susie is seen as a wallflower weirdo with her frizzy hair, frumpy wardrobe, and a wide smile adorned by colorful braces. She makes ends meet working at the campus burger joint with the sardonic and dismissive Jillian (Shiva Baby’s Rachel Sennott) for their semi-creepy and detail-obsessed boss Edgar Cabot (Ken Marino, currently of TV’s The Other Two). Wallflower or not, Susie impresses her professors with her enthusiastic disposition and good grades while her classmates treat her as invisible.
The enterprising young woman carries that unfazed perkiness over into a new interning job as a file clerk at the Wade County Sheriff’s office. There, she is supervised by the mild-mannered Sheriff Loggins (comedian Jim Gaffigan, leaning on his fuddy-duddy nature) and protein shake-pounding Deputy Graham (David Walton of Bad Moms). For Susie, she sees this as a glamorous gig and it puts her in an ideal place to feed her personal and creative obsession.
LESSON #1: TO SOLVE THE UNSOLVABLE– Inspired by her job at the sheriff’s office, Susie’s mantras become “to solve the unsolvable” and “bring resolution to the most haunting mysteries.” Over the years, she’s had a knack for guessing the endings of novels with her ailing mother (Jammie Patton of Compersion) since she was a kid. Her goals and empowerment to address local cold cases— as slightly warped as they may be– are as adorable as they are ambitious. You have to love her initiative and spirit, and Kiersey Clemons, through voiceover and body language, dials up the nerdy charm.
LESSON #2: GET YOUR VOICE OUT THERE– Over the years, Susie has become obsessed with true crime and created a podcast matching the title of the movie. When “Susie Searches” is recording, the introvert turns into an extrovert eager to get her voice out there and be heard. Her dream is that the show takes off and lassoes a big enough audience for monetization to be used to get her mother better homecare. Embarrassingly, the trouble is that virtually no one is listening to “Susie Searches” or following the show on social media (a common plight of the DIY podcaster, let me tell you).
All of that absent attention changes when Susie Wallis serendipitously rescues her missing classmate Jesse Wilcox (Coming Through the Rye and Hereditary’s Alex Wolff, currently seen in Oppenheimer)-- a holistic himbo and with a popular viral YouTube meditation vlog– from being being held captive in a basement of a empty property owned by his shady real estate magnate uncle. Cracking the missing persons case makes Susie a local celebrity and a promotional ambassador for the Wade College president (The Cosby Show’s Geoffrey Owens). The victory also raises her stock with Sheriff Loggins’ office, ignites her podcast audience, and lets her dote with a dreamy aura on the extremely thankful Jesse. He, like everyone else, is amazed by her successful save.
LESSON #3: DESTROY ALL THE EVIDENCE– That brings Susie Searches to its advertised twist. The answer as to how seemingly dumb luck enabled Susie Wallis to pull off the hero act is the shocking revelation that she was the kidnapper of Jesse Wilcox. Queue the Dramatic Chipmunk! After weeks of surveillance and careful planning cultivated by her well of true crime research and trivia, Susie orchestrated it all, but kept a stocking cap souvenir. That mistake, inevitably, will come back to bite her as the stress of living a lie smudges her innocent exterior and erodes her regimental internal composure.
LESSON #4: ROOTING FOR THE VILLAIN– As aforementioned, there’s a stretch of Susie Searches where you side with our main character even though she’s ostensibly the villain of the story. Susie’s surprisingly really smart at both creating and solving crime that she’s a marvel to watch left to her own devices. Despite her impressive intelligence, so many people have treated her like crap. Even though she creates her own triumph– one where no one really gets hurt (at least for a while)-- Susie deserves to have her specialness be seen.
Alas, that little jolt of demented buzz will not and should not last in Susie Searches. New and worse mistakes begin to pile up as she seeks to skate through getting this conundrum. Like her own facts announce, “you can be the best criminal, but you can’t outrun science.” Your rooting interests may shift, but your interest never drops. If anything, it grows because you’re in on the deception through slick dramatic irony.
This 2022 festival darling finally getting a wider release is the elongation of filmmaker-actress Sophie Kargman’s 2020 short film of the same name co-written with William David Frank (Fixation). Kargman, who played her own Susie then, found the right committed charisma from Kiersey Clemons to pass the torch to for her feature-length directorial debut. In the same vein, her concept expansion with Frank manufactures excellent little obstacles that, like Susie’s own ascension, help Susie Searches stand out from the crowd of dark comedies that dip their toe in horror motifs. No matter where allegiances sway, the shell game of evidence disposal and blame-dodging in this ingenious flip-flopping character study is a gleeful little hoot to watch.

Blockbusters Going Up Against Nolan Films Make On Average 53% of the His Box Office Totals
Oppenheimer is already being handed faultless reviews, but it faces stiff competition in the box office from Warner Bros’ latest release, Barbie. With that in mind, the folks at Basketball Insiders are combing through Nolan’s filmography to see how his films have fared against other releases around the same time, and what we can expect from this latest movie match-up.
Highlights from the data:
Blockbusters Going Up Against Nolan Films Make On Average 53% of the His Box Office Totals
Mamma Mia only made 61% of The Dark Knight’s box office revenue back in 2008
Dunkirk swept aside Girls Night, and Valerian and the City of A Thousand Planets at the box office, with their combined grosses making only 69% of Dunkirk's total
The Dark Knight ultimately came out on top joining the billion dollar club at $1.06 billion, whilst Mamma Mia earned a respectable $609.8 million. Nolan won this battle by around $400 million, just 61% of what Nolan’s Batman sequel earnt.
Interstellar vs. Big Hero 6 (2014)
This was no doubt Nolan’s toughest battle to date as he narrowly edged out Big Hero 6. Interstellar made $701.7 million, whilst Disney’s robotic superhero film followed closely behind with $657.8 million.
Dunkirk vs. Girls Night & Valerian & The City Of A Thousand Planets (2017)
Nolan’s harrowing heart-pounding war-time epic, which tells of Britain’s mass evacuation from Dunkirk beach in 1940, blew its rivals out the water after cinemas goers flocked to the big screen to earn it $527 million at the box office.
Valerian managed just $226 million which is only 42% of what Dunkirk made at the box office, whilst Girls Night came in last with $140.9 million. Both films’ box office combined could still only equate to 69% of what Nolan's Dunkirk made.
Commentary
Lee Astley, Head of News for Basketball Insiders summarised the box office results:
“Given Christopher Nolan’s films have grossed $5 billion worldwide, it is no surprise to see his box office rivals defeated down the years.
“His unconventional narratives, insistence on using large-format film photography and ability to create a sense of scale whilst using next-to-no special effects make him one of the 21st century’s greatest directors.
“Nevertheless, Nolan goes toe-to-toe with Barbie this week – a film that represents what many cinephiles loathe about Hollywood
“The glossy, candy-coated toy-inspired flick will obviously draw a different audience to Oppenheimer, but they are both being backed to draw some of the largest levels of cinema goers seen since before the pandemic.
“Nolan’s film is already being slated for a host of awards, but Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken means its appeal will likely reach more audiences worldwide, with Warner Bros expecting $75 million in domestic weekend ticket sales compared with Oppenheimer’s $50 million”
Everywhere you look inside and outside of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, there are layers upon layers of risks. The film’s depicted history of scientific discovery and governmental decisions leans heavily on creating tension in mere ideas, let alone when the previously theorized achievements come alive. Likewise, shooting a massive and deadly serious three-hour historical epic in large format film and dropping it in the sunny skies of the summer box office season (and on the heels of a pair of entertainment industry strikes, no less) comes with its own set of daunting prospects. Let’s talk about those.
Based on the very comprehensive Pulitzer Prize-winning biographyAmerican Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin K. Sherwin, Oppenheimer follows the academic origins and national service career of J. Robert Oppenheimer, played by longtime Nolan collaborator and Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy. The film introduces Robert in the late 1920s along his international path of meeting and collaborating with formative Nobel Prize winners (including Kenneth Branagh’s Niels Bohr, James D’Arcy’s Patrick Blackett, and Matthias Schweighöfer’s Werner Heisenberg) and storied institutions before he settles on a professor position at UC-Berkeley introducing quantum physics and quantum mechanics to the country’s academia next door to yet another Nobel Prize winner in Ernest Lawrence (the long-lost Josh Hartnett).
LESSON #1: THE RISKS OF PARTNERSHIPS, COLLABORATIONS, AND ASSOCIATIONS– These early segment arcs of burgeoning clout in Oppenheimer begin to tie threads of associations for the central figure. Outside of his university work, Oppenheimer’s leftist politics and anti-fascist actions nearly match his more extroverted brother Frank (Dylan Arnold of TV’s You) have him pegged as a potentially dangerous communist, especially when he begins a friendship with translator Haakon Chevalier (House of the Dragon’s Jefferson Hall) and a torrid extramarital affair with Jean Tatlock (Florence Pugh of Don’t Worry Darling), a registered member of the Communist Party of the United States of America.
Taking this hazardous risk of collaborations further is the arduous undertaking of the famous Manhattan Project during World War II that was tasked to Oppenheimer by General Leslie Groves (Matt Damon, stepping up from Paul Newman’s portrayal of the figure from 1989’s Fat Man and Little Boy). Plenty of folks in the U.S. government questioned trusting such a dangerous and important project demanding security and efficiency on the shoulders of a more-theoretical man like Oppenheimer and his leanings. The effort to win the war was one thing, but the scientific risks were exponentially more grave.
LESSON #2: THE RISKS OF KNOWLEDGE AND SCIENCE– Oppenheimer loves to repeat the mantra dialogue of “Theory will only get you so far,” meaning that lofty and dangerous hypotheses must be tested and confirmed before being handed over to a larger agency or, worse, unleashed on citizens and soldiers during wartime. The urgent race to beat the Germans to the atomic bomb punch rushed the engineered mashup of volatile explosives and rare radioactive elements that had the chance to ignite the entire planet’s atmosphere on fire instead of its intended target. Like the novel, the movie aptly and allegorically links this leadership peril of Robert to the cautionary Greek myth of Prometheus with a misinterpreted drizzle of the Bhagavad Gita’s Hindu scripture of “Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”
LESSON #3: THE RISKS OF WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION– Oppenheimer spends the bulk of its sizable production design work by Ruth De Jong (no stranger to the desert after Nope) recreating the isolated base at Los Alamos, New Mexico and building suspense towards the famous Trinity test that would confirm all their scientific confidence or fears. As many know, the result of the three-year and $3 billion Manhattan Project was the development of the first weapons of mass destruction. That technology, heroically credited to Robert, became something that could now be replicated, stolen by espionage, or developed en masse here and abroad, changing military might forever. After the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the gravity of his work’s outcomes weighed heavily on Oppenheimer where he advocated in the 1950s to avert nuclear proliferation and avoid an arms race and received harsh judgment for expressing divergent honest opinions.
For its three hours, Oppenheimer takes a clandestine route to portray these behind-the-scenes personal and professional relationships of the titular figure. The film uses two main settings as plot moorings to present, rehash, and expose all the supposed skeletons in everyone’s closet. The first is the closed-door 1954 security hearing where Robert, his wife Kitty (Emily Blunt, in the unforgiving the wife-and-mother-at-home slot), and the parade of project partners from his past are badgered with questions before a kangaroo court led by Jason Clarke’s Atomic Energy Commission special counsel Roger Robb. The second setting is five years later during the 1959 U.S. Senate hearings for the appointment of former Atomic Energy Commission chairman Lewis Strauss (an excellent Robert Downey, Jr.) as the Secretary of Commerce in President Eisenhower’s Cabinet. Shot in black and white to set it apart, Strauss and his aides and allies (including renewed bites at the apple for Solo’s Alden Ehrenreich and Chronicle’s Dane DeHaan) are circling the wagons to bury Oppenheimer further after years of revealed confrontational history.
LESSON #4: THE RISKS OF STORYTELLING AND FILMMAKING– This is where Christopher Nolan takes over the saga’s heft and adds his own talent and hubris. Rather than a traditional chronology, Oppenheimer twists this lengthy unrolled scroll of powerful history and folds it like origami with Nolan’s penchant for toying with multiple timelines. The director’s cast and his trusty 4-time cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema stage a host of meetings and character interactions across decades that showcase the troublesome bonds and the pensive issues that would plague the rest of Robert’s life (and the movie).
This overall presentation of technique in Oppenheimer is both a triumph and a drawback for audiences. From a performance standpoint, Oppenheimer granted a great deal of latitude to its actors to soak themselves into the ranges of risks and obsessions seen on screen. Make no mistake. Oppenheimer is the best lead performance of Cillian Murphy’s underappreciated career and the most solid work we’ve seen Robert Downey Jr. offer outside of the MCU in decades. Both are fractured men with different slants of stoicism and watching the two either embrace or combat the pressures on their characters is fascinating. Murphy and Downey have deservedly entered the early awards conversation and could be joined by the little infusions of heart that come from Emily Blunt, Benny Safdie, and David Krumholtz from this stacked cast.
To put it all together, Nolan and his Tenet editor Jennifer Lame then channel a little bit of Terrence Malick with a menagerie of hyper-edited insert shots of raw nature or character flashbacks that likely pace the film at the same furious 3.1 average shot length clip as his career average, one that is dubiously only a tenth of a second slower than maligned mayhem of Michael Bay. Chew on that math, cinephiles and FilmBros. More often than not, the frenetic flickering backed by a booming sound design and the blaring score of Black Panther Academy Award winner Ludwig Göransson makes Oppenheimer feel like maddening noise (commonly drowning out dialogue like in Tenet) more than an intoxicating symphony of high suspense, fascinating nuance, lofty consequences, and warranted comeuppance.
LESSON #5: WE CRAVE RISKS– Don’t get me wrong. Risks are wonderful. Film audiences crave them and piss and moan when they’re absent. It’s because risks and stakes engage the emotional responses and escapist feelings that come with these big screen storytelling vacations. From nicknamed childhood sleds to a Polaroid picture clue to a crime and millions of little things in-between, great movies can take minute details, events, and settings and amplify them to matter to an audience and evoke invested feelings.
That’s where Oppenheimer overshoots. The amount of included risks within the movie centering around a crucial turning point in world history should be infinitely compelling, especially when crafted with off-the-scale production efforts. Somewhere, outside of small flickers, a fiery human heart is absent from all the artificial explosives. Rattle us. Scare us. Inspire us. Instead, it’s awfully hard to get hot-and-bothered about the bottom of Oppenheimer’s rabbit hole relying on a boardroom inquiry to renew someone’s security clearance and a congressional hearing to approve a Cabinet position appointment.
LESSON #6: AT SOME POINT, THE RISKS NEED TO MATTER– After three hours and one of Nolan’s signature final-five-minute bow-tying crests, that’s it. Call those two central arcs and settings a boiled-down oversimplification of Nolan’s epic all you want, but that’s precisely where the touted risks of this endeavor have to matter and escalate to something bolder. Look at Oliver Stone’s JFK for an impact comparison and the use of its cinematic bells and whistles. A viewer should leave Oppenheimer convinced of depicted truths and dying to know more, not merely nodding “Well, that was that” like they watched a theatrical Wikipedia page summary.
Even with all of its impressive pomp and noise, nothing dramatically radioactive is going to ping your internal Geiger counter higher than a nominal level. And that, like Dunkirk and Tenet before this, is another missed opportunity from one of the best filmmakers in the industry. There’s a pair of lines offered to our main character in Oppenheimer that mirror some of the pushback analysis to Nolan’s good standing. Review writers' profiles: Look for platforms that provide detailed profiles of their writers. Examine their educational background, areas of expertise, and years of experience. This information will help you assess their qualifications and suitability for your specific requirements.
Consider ratings and reviews: Take into account the ratings and reviews provided by previous customers. These testimonials can give you insights into the writer's writing style, professionalism, adherence to deadlines, and overall customer satisfaction. Look for writers who consistently receive positive feedback and high ratings.
Sample work: Some platforms allow you to request samples of a writer's previous work. This can give you a glimpse into their writing style, tone, and ability to meet academic standards. Plan ahead: Allow sufficient time for the entire process, including selecting a writer, providing instructions, and reviewing the final paper. By planning ahead, you can avoid last-minute rush and ensure that you have ample time for revisions if needed.
Set realistic deadlines: When setting deadlines, consider the complexity of the assignment, the length of the paper, and your own schedule. Clearly communicate expectations: Clearly communicate your expectations and deadlines to the assigned writer. Maintain regular communication: Stay in touch with the writer throughout the process. Establish a clear channel of communication to address any concerns, provide clarifications, or track the progress of the paper. Regular updates and communication can help ensure that the writer stays on track and meets the agreed-upon deadline.
