Nearly everyone enjoys watching movies to which they can relate in some way. Relatability looms large in screenwriters' minds as they develop and create scripts that directors will bring into sharp visual focus on the big screen. Consequently, because many film-goers find employment in business offices, writers sometimes choose to use the topic of business as the focus of their screenplays. Business relations, employment of workers at business firms and office politics can provide the discord that makes for exciting business film plots, although not always fun to experience in real life. Over the years, many movie theatre patrons can vicariously live through and enjoy watching six of the greatest movies about business as a central theme.
In this 2002 film, had the FBI agent Carl Hanratty, played by Tom Hanks, undergone complex negotiation training, he might have fared better in coming to terms with teenage super-criminal Frank William Abagnale, Jr., portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio. In this supercharged plot-driven tale directed by Stephen Speilberg, the character of Abagnale outsmarts the FBI. The FBI wishes to stop his behavior of posing as different business people and then swindling money out of various companies while staying on the run to elude capture.
Writer David Mamet, so well-known for his stage plays, comes up with an award-winning hit in this popular film from 1992. The plot focuses on four real estate agents who get the news that only the top two salesmen in the office will retain their jobs and receive the additional reward of other lucrative business leads. However, the rest will face firing within two weeks of being given this notice. The movie depicts the inter-office relations and the desperate measures this group of workers will take to stay employed.
Female employees' rights to fair work practices provide the impetus for this film, which came to the big screen in 1980. This comic film features an all-star cast of Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Dolly Parton and Dabney Coleman. It shows the three female characters employed at the fictional business Consolidated Companies, getting revenge on their overbearing male boss, played by Coleman. The fierce boss, Miranda Priestly, portrayed by Meryl Streep, makes employment unbearable for those around her. Factory workers had to struggle for decades to receive fair labor conditions, and this movie depicts one story of how the workers ended up gaining better employment rights. Sally Field, who received an Academy Award for Best Actress for her work in this 1979 film, plays the true-life titular character, who, against great odds, organized a trade union at the factory where she worked.

The 78-year-old actor suffered a shoulder injury during a fight scene in his recent “Indiana Jones” film. He needed physical therapy to recover after the incident.
Jaimie Alexander was another actress who slipped and fell. On this occasion, Jaimie fell down a metal staircase while filming “Thor: The Dark World”. Over in the world of professional wrestling, there’s a popular crowd chant of “You still got it!” Arenas bring it out when a fan favorite returns to the show from a long absence or on the special occasion when an older veteran returns to the ring showing the spryness of their celebrated youth. Movie fans, in their own way, have been making that chant for Sylvester Stallone the last 15-plus years since his Rocky Balboa comeback. Samaritan is but one more opportunity for such crowd-pleasing praise.
Directed by Julius Avery (Overlord), Samaritan sets the stage of a post-superhero fallout in the fictitious Granite City. Echoed as faded lore told by a pre-teen named Sam Cleary (Euphoria’s Javon Walton) and animated for the film’s opening in a very comic book fashion, the city’s heroic champion Samaritan appeared to perish vanquishing his mortal enemy Nemesis in a calamitous and destructive throwdown twenty years ago. Neither combatant has been seen since while the city has fallen on hard times in the power vacuum caused by their dual departure.
The legacy of Nemesis has inspired elevated and unchecked crime, controlled presently by the violent and brash leader Cyrus (an imposing Pilou Asbæk of Overlord and Game of Thrones) his deadly lieutenant Sil (Riverdale’s Sophia Tatum), and their underlings. Meanwhile, the absence of Samaritan has eroded the former vibrant hope he represented to the tragic myth we’re hearing being narrated. While others have given up and feel abandoned, Sam idolizes Samaritan’s former ideals and fuels his fandom picking the brain of a local writer (Martin Starr). He and his working nurse mother Tiffany (Dascha Polanco of Orange is the New Black) live in this paycheck-to-paycheck grime in a ramshackle apartment complex.
One day when Sam was being targeted and beaten up by one of Cyrus’s thugs named Rex (The Kings of Summer’s Moises Arias), a burly local neighbor who goes by the nondescript name Joe (Stallone) comes to his aid showing strength and invulnerability greater than a normal man to fight off the goons. A thankful and awestruck Sam is convinced that Joe is the long-lost Samaritan. Sam begins to attach himself to this scrounger and tinkerer of old tech in hopes of finding truth and hope.
LESSON #1: LONERS HAVE THEIR REASONS FOR HIDING– Joe, at first, isn’t all that keen about this tagalong kid or the possibility of being exposed publicly. In this character, Stallone wears painful literal and figurative painful past losses on every inch of his broad frame, from his slowed gait and weather voice to the scars of burned flesh on his very body. The actor plays these traits brilliantly. Joe has his reasons for hiding and they are greater than Sam can imagine. Naturally, it’s whether or not those reasons are good or bad for the man and the community he occupies.
LESSON #2: GOOD AND BAD MENTORSHIP– Like stray dogs finding each other, Sam becomes a good influence for Joe running parallel to gang pressure of Cyrus. Joe helps Sam learn to defend and stand up for himself while having the iron of his heart slowly melt in the presence of a true believer encouraging him to get involved in the urban strife. This appreciable relationship between Joe and Sam is more of Samaritan’s core than the superpowered transgressions.
LESSON #3: THE DECISIONS YOU MAKE ADD UP– The pacing of Samaritan, written by Bragi F. Schut (Escape Room, Season of the Witch), deftly slow plays its culmination of breaking points. Cyrus’s damaging clout needs to be stopped, and Joe can no longer remain passive or neutral, all while everyone’s safety dangles precariously on the verge of another collapse. If Joe reignites that inner fire, he knows it’s a raging blaze that cannot be easily stopped and the kind of heat that magnifies old sins. From that place of legend’s long broken road, Samaritan unleashes a climactic twist for the ages that changes everything.
Hit the ELO because we’re heading for a showdown. When necessary, Stallone is still a hulking specimen of action movie screen presence. Beginning in little confrontations and culminating in a true knockdown-drag-out climax, he and his two stunt doubles (Freddie Poole and Mark R. Miscione) are put through the paces of fight coordinator Michael Lehr (Extraction) and supervising stunt coordinator Justin Yu (Day Shift) to throw their barrages of punches and bounce off the hailstorms of bullets. If anything, that big ending and the jaw-dropping swerve it contains happen a shade too late into the movie without a longer probe into its intense impact. Intriguing and unique drama was left on the table.
All in all, the question to ask, though, is should we really be surprised anymore by Sylvester Stallone? Back to the squared circle, there’s a subsection of wrestling fandom that calls the “You still got it!” chant overused, patronizing, and condescending towards those being verbally showered. Those fans say legends at the highest level have nothing to prove, no matter their age, and never lost “it” to begin with. They may be right.
Even now at 76 years old, long past his own peaks and valleys, Sly remains a proven talent and beloved favorite. Nothing will probably break that or ever take that away. Nonetheless, this writer feels like “You still got it!” respect towards Stallone, as a complete performer, is still worth acknowledgment. Thanks to the Rocky and Rambo series, most go straight to the muscles. The special thing is Samaritan shows how much Sylvester Stallone still offers as an actor that has nothing to do with the ripped physicality that made him famous.

The movie has an incredible score by Hans Zimmer. The music is sweeping and epic, and it helps to heighten the emotion of the film. I especially love the scene where the protagonist runs through the streets, and the music builds to a crescendo as he finally reaches his goal. His music can transport you to another world.
Pearl Harbor is a classic film enjoyed more than 20 years later. It's a great love story with thrilling action sequences, and it features an excellent cast and Hans Zimmer's incredible score. If you haven't seen it, it's definitely worth watching.

Before The Office and Severance were hits, Office Space was the comedic emblem of the average person’s experience of modern corporate culture. Ultimately, much of the humor and messaging in Office Space still rings true after more than two decades. Anyone who can identify with Peter’s plight can appreciate what he learns in his empowering reevaluation of working life and personal fulfillment. You obviously don’t want to follow every page out of his playbook, but you need to resolve to take meaningful action to change your situation.

The subject of law and legal matters affects many people throughout their lives. For example, some may have to go to small-claims courts to recoup a limited financial loss. In contrast, others may find themselves in litigation when disagreements occur in business matters or personal situations such as divorce proceedings. Because many have had contact with the courts, the subject of law often finds its way into popular feature films because many audience-goers can relate to the topic in various ways. Although many motion pictures focus on the law, five movies represent the pinnacle of success in depicting the court system.
Paul Newman stars as Frank Galvin, a washed-up lawyer with alcohol struggles who gets a final chance at winning a lawsuit in this marvelous feature film from 1982. Directed by Sidney Lumet with a screenplay by David Mamet, Galvin's work on a medical malpractice claim shows lawyers' difficulties in procuring evidence and presenting it compellingly before a judge in court. In addition, while court employees such as a court reporter Phoenix and others might be significant players in the plots, there are other depictions in pictures where these characters might be absent. For instance, this motion picture focuses strongly on the judge and jury as Gilroy seeks justice. Quite a realistic film nominated for several awards, the movie provides a classic underdog story with a hero that deeply draws the audience into the tale.
Courtroom portrayals tend toward the grave and not comic, but in this example from 1992, comedy ensues as two New Yorkers become prime murder suspects for a crime committed in the South but which they did not commit. Vinny, portrayed by Joe Pesci, a just-barely licensed New York lawyer, comes to defend them, much to the chagrin of the Southern community that hosts the court proceedings.
Tom Hanks gives a heartbreaking portrayal of gay lawyer Andrew Beckett, who suffers from illness associated with AIDS, and whose company fires him when they find out about his sickness in the 1993 blockbuster. Denzel Washington stars as lawyer Joe Miller, who agrees to represent Beckett in what they anticipate will become a complicated courtroom proceeding. Tom Hanks won a significant award for Best Actor and Bruce Springsteen, who wrote music for the film, won top honors in the Best Original Song category.
Award-winning actor Gregory Peck stars as lawyer Atticus Finch in a movie based on Harper Lee's novel. Finch serves as the legal representative of a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman in a small rural poverty-stricken Southern town during the 1930s, when racism reigns. A sense of justice and a belief in fair treatment for all make Finch the perfect choice to defend someone who finds himself in court with highly unfavorable odds as to the case's outcome.
The jury's role in a homicide case becomes the central focus in this story that began life as a teleplay and stage play before being later turned into the film version. The judge gives twelve jurors the task of deciding whether the accused teenage defendant killed his abusive father. Although all the jurors agree on his guilt at the beginning of the motion picture, one of the jurors holds out and gives compelling reasons why the boy might not have committed the crime. Henry Fonda stars as Juror #8 in this feature film from 1957, providing a gripping look inside the logic and emotions that often come into sharp focus behind closed doors in the juror's room.
Courtroom movies offer many hours of fascinating and informative entertainment. Furthermore, viewers can learn much about the workings of the court system through watching films about courtroom proceedings.

Some of the most thought-provoking films are those that make people think about choices such as right or wrong. These films challenge a person's assumptions and beliefs and force them to question the very nature of their thoughts and perceptions. It's easy to assume you would act or behave in a certain situation until you get a glimpse of possible choices and environments that can affect how a person behaves. One such film is Boiler Room.
If you want to watch a film that gives a deeper perspective on the stock market, politics, and behavior, this is a must-watch for you.
Boiler Room is a 2000 American drama film directed by Ben Younger and starring Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel, Nia Long, Ben Affleck, Nicky Katt, Scott Caan, Tom Everett Scott, Ron Rifkin, and Jamie Kennedy. The film was released on February 18, 2000, by Universal Pictures.
The film tells the story of a group of young stockbrokers working at a small firm called J.T. Marlin in New York City. The story follows Seth Davis (Ribisi), a college dropout who runs an illegal casino from his apartment to make money. He eventually gets a job working at a stock brokerage firm on Wall Street called J.T Marlin. The firm is one of many "boiler rooms" that engage in illegal and unethical practices in order to sell penny stocks to unsuspecting investors. The film focuses on the protagonist Seth Davis (Ribisi), who starts working at J.T. Marlin after being expelled from college and shows some interesting negotiations training tactics that help them trick people into buying.
The acting in Boiler Room is top-notch across the board. Ribisi gives a particularly standout performance as the lead, Seth Davis. He is believable as the smart and ambitious young man who gets caught up in the world of penny stocks and illegal practices. The rest of the cast is also excellent, including Vin Diesel, Nia Long, Ben Affleck, Nicky Katt, Scott Caan, Tom Everett Scott, Ron Rifkin, and Jamie Kennedy.
The story of Boiler Room is engaging and well-paced. It does a good job of showing how easy it is to get sucked into the world of illegal stock trading. The movie Boiler Room is a fascinating look at the world of illegal stock trading. The film also has a strong message about the importance of ethics and doing the right thing and gives a great example of the dangers of unethical behavior and the importance of obeying the law. The characters in the film are all incredibly intelligent and charismatic, but their greed and lack of ethics eventually lead to their downfall.
The ending of Boiler Room is both hopeful and tragic. The film's protagonist, Seth Davis, has just been exposed as a fraud and is about to be arrested. However, he takes one last chance to make things right by exposing the fraudulent practices of the boiler room he was working in.
The acting in Boiler Room was top-notch all around. Ribisi and Diesel were both magnetic in their respective roles, while the rest of the cast turned in strong performances as well. The movie did a great job of showing the high-pressure, fast-paced world of Wall Street in the 1990s. Boiler Room was a critical and commercial success, grossing $28 million against its $6 million budget. It is considered one of the best films of 2000.
Overall, Boiler Room is a well-made film with strong performances from its cast. The film is a great cautionary tale about the consequences of illegal activity. It is also a great example of how easy it is to get caught up in illegal activity when you are surrounded by others who are doing the same thing. It is an enjoyable watch and is sure to appeal to fans of drama and crime films. So if you enjoy a fast-paced movie that gives plenty of undertones of deeper meaning, choices, and outcomes and don't mind a karma-like ending, then you'll enjoy this one.

Not long into the hostage situation unfolding in Breaking we see that its perpetrator is no ordinary would-be robber. Even though he claims to have a bomb in his backpack, he doesn’t brandish a weapon and lets all the customers in the lobby go before locking the doors. Over the next several hours that transpire, he apologizes repeatedly to his two remaining bank employee hostages and takes mind of their physical comfort. He doesn’t act violently and even takes down the phone messages of oblivious customers calling into the branch. Most importantly, it is revealed he is not there for the thousands of dollars available of the bank’s money.
It would be really easy for a movie like Breaking, tip-toeing in the Dog Day Afternoon direction, to turn up the brightness of the pariah spotlights and crank up the volume on the injustice pulpit loudspeakers. That’s not so here. Director Abi Damaris Corbin resists the temptations to pound messages and shout showy monologues. He and his screenwriting partner Kwame Kwei-Armah uphold the simple and poignant principles that were at hand with this true story and on the central figure’s mind during a fateful July day in 2017.
Former Marine Brian Brown-Easley (Attack the Block’s John Boyega) is having great trouble making ends meet to support himself, his ex-wife Cassandra (Olivia Washington of Lee Daniels’ The Butler), and young daughter Kiah (London Covington of Abbot Elementary) in the Smyrna suburb of Atlanta. Jobs have been hard to come by, rent is due, aid has been denied, and his disability check from the VA has been held over a technicality. Without money, he is homeless.
These dire straits prompted Brian to enter a Wells Fargo bank branch. He passes a note to a homely teller named Rosa (Orange is the New Black’s Selenis Leyva) about a bomb, directly asks for the alarm to be triggered, and gets the building locked down with the himself, the teller, and the manager Estel Valerie (Nicole Beharie of Miss Juneteenth) inside. From there, the aforementioned behaviors start to materialize in Brian Brown-Easley with each bead of sweat and puffed cigarette.
LESSON #1: THE INSUFFICIENCY OF AID WITHIN VETERAN AFFAIRS– The opening lead-up of Breaking and several flashbacks to earlier efforts of Brian Brown-Easley highlight the glaring and terribly unfortunate deficiencies of government support available to those who served their country. Brian was but a single example of many similar cases. At one point, the man is handcuffed and hauled out of an office facility for questioning the policies that test both monotonous patience and daily survival. In the end, all he wants is the $892 due to him from the VA and not a dollar more or a penny from some other substitute institution.
John Boyega offers a stellar lead performance that has already garnered awards attention on the festival circuit and deserves more as the year concludes. The actor composes the mental state of this character with targeted imbalance. Every frantic bout of shouting is paired with a nervous twitch of desperation or a spoken lament that cements his virtues. Breaking could have easily inflated false heroism into this character and given him stump speeches to pontificate a laundry list of bigger messages. Instead, Boyega is a dynamic prism of relatable reality.
LESSON #2: KINDNESS DURING CRISIS– Through this escalating ordeal that very much creeps closer to dangerous calamity, there is a streak of decency to this man. Brian is shaken by his financial circumstances and wants what he wants, but is very aware, like a true honorably discharged former soldier, of not bringing harm to those who do not deserve it. His benevolence towards his hostages cracks their frightened composure, particularly Estel. She outwardly wrestles with the potential personal answers of “how did I help” this event. Estel reaches a place where she pleads “I need you not to die.” That’s fear transformed into hope and kindness on a rare level, and Nicole Beharie delivers that heft wonderfully.
There’s a crucial juncture in Breaking that happens at the end of the second act. It is typified by important changes to the voices and depth of the conversations. Up to that point, the only communication between Brian and the outside is an active phone call with television journalist Lisa Larson (Connie Britton). In time, her questions veer to banality where it is clear the press is not the right distiller of the greater matter. Breakthroughs arrive with the entry of Sgt. Eli Bernard, a negotiator played by the late Michael K. Williams who’s grown wary watching the fruitless responses to Brian’s small demands and the increasing tactical perimeter of law enforcement.
LESSON #3: SHARING EMPATHY– When Eli and Brian begin their phone conversation, the entire attitude of the situation changes and the film drastically improves. As fate would have it, Eli is a fellow Marine veteran. Unlike a disconnected TV personality from a different caste, this man understands Brian like no one else could. The stirring empathy shared between the two is composed brilliantly through the script and the editing of Chris Witt (Finding You) that bridges the emotional actors across a divided setting. My goodness, even in a supporting role, this kind of important presence could not have been a better swan song for Williams who died prematurely by drug overdose nearly a year ago.
Those familiar with the fate of Brian Brown-Easley from the Task & Purpose source article “They Didn’t Have to Kill Him” written by Aaron Gell know that pain is coming without sugarcoating. His story would likely make a better documentary than a dramatic feature. Yet, to its commendable credit, Breaking upholds much of the truth that happened that day with very little dramatic license applied to manufacture fictional suspense. Others may desire larger and louder justice presented against the many layered failures of ethics echoing from this tragedy. Instead, Breaking holds a shrewd quality of strength that remains contained to the main character’s simple virtues. When the man’s words and actions on their own can express the lost dignity and humanity at the heart of the trouble, megaphones and soapboxes from other places are far less necessary.
